Zechariah sets the biblical camera on Jerusalem in the closing days of the 70th Week. Lost in the mayhem and heroism is a critical sequence: when national Israel finally calls on Jesus as their messiah, He comes down from heaven and saves them. Does the Lord's promised return await Jewish acceptance of Jesus?

8. 1. GOG’S ATTACK ON ISRAEL
(From Ezekiel 37-39)
I covered this attack in detail several presentations back.
Click here to check it out.
I place Gog’s attack before the seven-years of the 70th Week/
Tribulation.
Israel emerges from Gog’s failed attack confident of Jehovah’s
blessing, perhaps even cocky. Such pride would explain the
blindness with which they soon act. Such pride might explain
why they seemingly replicate the internal squabbling that
gave Antiochus Epiphanes his early advantage back in the
time of the Maccabees (circa 170’s and 160’s BC).

The “firm covenant for one week”,
or seven years, from Daniel 9:27.
I cannot settle on a place of
origin for this individual who
will, in time, become the
AntiChrist. Makes my head
hurt.
He ‘seizes the kingdom’ by
intrigue which suggests
collusion with Jewish political
factions and THEN he
violently shatters the alarmed
opposition.
“Prince of the Covenant” . . .
hmm. Could this be the duly
appointed, Jewish religious
leader of the time?
10. The final AntiChrist will
model my evil ways.
Antiochus Epiphanes was the ruler of
one of the four sections of Alexander
the Great’s empire–the Syrian
section, which included Israel. He
was nuts. Really.
Antiochus Epiphanes used divisions
among Jewish elite to politicize
Israel’s religious system. First one
side bribed him for advantage and
then the other.

Hard not to think of the
Maccabees here, again noticing
the parallels to Antiochus
Epiphanes and 167 BC!
This answers to Daniel 9:27’s
‘in the middle of the week . . .’,
that is, 3 ½ years into the 7
year covenant/alliance
Odd phrasing here: He’s
simply moving an ALREADY
wicked Jewish faction to
additional behaviors Daniel
calls ‘godless’.

14. 5. A DESPERATE RESCUE
AT THE END
A loss of ⅔ of
the population!
“For I will restore you to health. And I will heal
you of your wounds,’ declares the Lord, ‘Because
they have called you an outcast, saying: “It is
Zion; no one cares for her.”’”
Jeremiah 30:17
9“And I will bring the third part through the fire,
Refine them as silver is refined,
And test them as gold is tested.
They will call on My name,
And I will answer them;
I will say, ‘They are My people,’
And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
Zechariah 13:9
Why does ⅔ of the
population need to perish
in this refining process?

27. Notice how “The Deliverer”
will remove ungodliness from
Jacob–there’s a spiritual revival
and cleansing involved.
25 For I do not want you, brethren, to be
uninformed of this mystery—so that you will
not be wise in your own estimation—that a
partial hardening has happened to Israel
until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as
it is written,
“THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM
ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS
FROM JACOB.”
Romans 11:25+
Apparently God intervenes on the Jews’ behalves,
removing the veil of ‘ungodliness’ from them as a
step in their national redemption.
Sequence Time: we deal once again with the word
UNTIL: Jewish national salvation happens
Paul offers support.
WHEN/AFTER the ‘fullness of the Gentiles‘ has
come in–at the end of the age!
28. You better look for
more corroboration on this
one, Lenny!
11 I say then, they did not stumble so as to
fall, did they? May it never be! But by their
transgression salvation has come to the
Gentiles, to make them jealous. 12 Now if
their transgression is riches for the world and
their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how
much more will their fulfillment be! . . . .
15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of
the world, what will their acceptance be but
life from the dead? Romans 11:11-15
Hmmmm. . . . “Life from the dead” might refer
to the resurrection of the dead which happens at
the Return of Jesus Christ . . . . in fact, what else
could this phrase mean?
S-o-o-o-o, sequence-time again. When the Jews
Paul has more to say.

age, then He returns and . . . the dead in Christ

31. III-A: HOW ALL ISRAEL
COMES TO BE SAVED
Victory and Redemption in Zechariah 12
32. Chapter 12 gives us an overview
of Israel at the end.
Jerusalem goes on a rampage
Jerusalem is under
siege-Judah, too!
2. “Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup
that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and
when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be
against Judah. 3. It will come about in that day
that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all
the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured.
And all the nations of the earth will be gathered
against it.”
The ‘nations’ get
a beat-down.
At the end, all the world
attacks Israel . . .
(See Revelation 16:14)
33. 12:6-9 reiterates with details
Judah has a specific military role
God still deals with
tribal grievances and
jealousies in Israel.
Jerusalem defended
secondly
6 “In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a
firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch
among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand
and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while the
inhabitants of Jerusalem again dwell on their own sites
in Jerusalem. 7 The Lord also will save the tents of
Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and
the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be
magnified above Judah. 8 In that day the Lord will
defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is
feeble among them in that day will be like David, and
the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the
Lord before them. 9 And in that day I will set about to
destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”
Fascinating reference to the
‘house of David’. WUWT??
34. 12:10 spotlights the Spirit’s role
First off, “SO THAT”:
establishes a cause-andeffect relationship between
the verse’s two statements
I. First, God pours out His Spirit onto
Jerusalem and Israel SO THAT
10 “I will pour out on the house of David and on the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of
supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they
have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one
mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over
Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.
God’s Spirit must soften
hardened Jewish hearts just as
He must soften hardened Gentile
hearts if we are to be saved
His role is central to everything
that happens here!
II. Secondly, Jews will LOOK ON
JESUS and mourn and weep over
their rejection of their Messiah
35. III-B: HOW ALL ISRAEL

This incredible slaughter sets the
measure of Jewish despair.
Here God states His purpose: spiritual
refinement, spiritual brokeness and a
national acceptance of Jesus as
Messiah–at last.
8 “It will come about in all the land,”
declares the Lord, “That two parts in it

This is first of several ‘field reports’ which

How frequently does

this phrase, ‘in that

Isaiah use this same

will dwindle. 7 For it will be a unique day which is
known to the Lord, neither day nor night, but it will
come about that at evening time there will be light.

49. Try Daniel and
Revelation, Lenny.
15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of
the world, what will their acceptance be but
life from the dead? Romans 11:11-15
“. . . and at that time your people, everyone who is
found written in the book, will be rescued. Many of
those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake,
these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace
and everlasting contempt.” Daniel 12:2 describing
the precise moment covered by Zechariah 12-14
4 “. . . And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their
testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not
worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their
forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with
Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until
the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.”
Revelation 20, announcing the FIRST RESURRECTION at the end of the
tribulation, at the end of the Time of Jacob’s Troubles, so called.
