California Sales Tax Exemption for Alternative
Energy Manufacturing Equipment

• Grant Type: Tax Exemption
• Amount: 100% exemption
• Geographic Focus: California, US
• Deadline: 1st January 2021

• SB 71 of 2010 established an exclusion from the state's sales and use tax for the purchase of
renewable energy equipment, combined heat and power equipment, and alternative
transportation equipment in California

• Project owners will need to apply to the California Alternative Energy and Advanced
Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA) to receive the sales tax exclusion.

• In 2008, Massachusetts enacted the Green Communities Act and created the Green
Communities Division within the Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to support
Massachusetts communities towards a sustainable future, specifically in terms of energy use.

• The Green Communities Division offers educational, technical, and networking support to
the states' communities.


US State Incentives – Massachusetts (2 of 2)

Massachusetts – Commonwealth
Community-Scale Wind Initiative

• Amount: $2,000,000
• Geographic Focus: Massachusetts, US
• Deadline: 4th May 2010

• The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s (MassCEC) Community-Scale Wind Initiative
awards grants for qualifying wind projects with a nameplate capacity greater than or
equal to 100 kilowatts (kW).

• A project is eligible for funding if it is located at a commercial, industrial, institutional, or
public site, and if the electric system will be served by a Massachusetts investor-owned electric
utility company or a Municipal Light Plant Department

• The Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge recognizes and rewards
Students and Universities for their innovation and research of sustainable solutions to
the world’s most pressing social, economic and environmental problems.


UK Carbon Reduction Scheme

Foundation

• Amount: £50,000
• Geographic Focus: Selected Universities
• Deadline: 5th April 2010

• Foundation is a carbon reduction scheme financed by the Northwest Regional
Development Agency, along with private donations from businesses and individuals, which is
being managed by Groundwork Northwest.

• It will provide grants for North West of England-based charities, community groups,
public sector bodies and not-for-profit organisations to carry out projects that will reduce
energy use and make significant carbon dioxide emissions savings.
