3. Blood Pressure
Blood Pressure is the pressure exerted by circulating
blood upon the walls of blood vessels
4. Types of Blood Pressure
Systolic Blood Pressure:
It is specifically the maximum arterial pressure during
contraction of Heart
Diastolic Blood Pressure :
Diastolic pressure, refers to the lowest pressure within
the arterial blood stream due to expansion of heart
5. Measurement of Blood Pressure
There are 3 basic ways to measure the blood
Auscultatory.
Oscillometric.
Direct Method.
6. Auscultatory Method
The auscultatory method (from the Latin word for
"listening") uses a stethoscope and a
sphygmomanometer.
8. Oscillometric Method
The oscillometric method involves the observation of
oscillations in the sphygmomanometer cuff pressure
9. Direct Method
A thin tube is directly inserted in the body to assess
pressure of the blood
Two types of direct method
H2O manometers
Electronic manometers
10. H2O Manometers
Thin manometer tube is directly inserted in the body
having water in it .
11. Electronic manometers
An electronic pressure transducer can be connected to
the patient to find pressure by thin tubing called
catheter
