3. Slavery Began from 1760 BC The maritime town of Lagos, Portugal, was the first slave market created for the sale of imported African slaves. Most of the slaves were brought from Mauritania. Whites from Southern State traditionally bought and owned black slaves. Slaves had to follow everything that is commanded by the owner
