“As the first co-chairs of the African American Employee Resource
Group Dee-Dee and I have relished the opportunity to serve in a capacity
that demonstrates Cambia’s commitment to inclusion. With over 50
years of combined experience at Regence, we have seen many changes
over the years. The creation of the Employee Resource Groups has been
a dream realized.
Cambia’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is the power behind the
ERGs. The development of the ERG’s within the organization has
afforded the chance for employees to develop and enhance their careers,
as well as support and participate in corporate and community sponsored
volunteer events. It has also created a common community where ERG
members in all four states can share and interact with fellow members in
support of Cambia’s core strategies and corporate values.
As co-chairs we recognize and are committed to being the vessel to carry
forth the voices of our members. Three years ago Dee- Dee and I were
excited for the opportunity to co-chair on this new adventure. Initially
we experienced some apprehension and hesitancy. Martin Luther King
once said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the full
staircase.” Through the ups and downs experienced in launching the
AAERG, Dee-Dee and I have remained dedicated in our mission to be
the voice for our members. The example that Cambia daily
demonstrates in its efforts to evolve and be innovative in transforming
healthcare has provided the platform to help ensure our success.
We can’t’ see the full staircase. We continue to move forward one step
at a time realizing the staircase is the beginning of a path that will
promote diversity, inclusion and individual growth for current and future
Cambia employees. This is how we are living our dream.”

“I live my dreams through
including support the
perspectives of others. I
strive to create an
environment that is full of
opportunities to different
viewpoints. This is
important to me because
there are very few
challenges that cannot be
overcome when we are
inclusive in our problem
solving.”

Executive Sponsor
As champions for our cause at Cambia,
the African-American Employee
Resource Group takes exceptional
pride in our corporate values.
During 2015, we’ve set out to be
catalysts for the transformation of
healthcare by nurturing the fertile
ground where innovation takes its
strongest hold: the workplace.
The Live Your Dream initiative has
inspired us all to uncover the potential
that lies in every person-focused
interaction. For those diverse
interactions shape the landscape of our
shared success.
We are honored to close the campaign
by recognizing the dreams of our peers
across the organization, each whom
embodies the character and
perseverance required to live their
dreams.
“Dr. King delivered his powerful "I have
a Dream” speech on August 28, 1968
from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
during the March on Washington. His
speech not only changed America, its
message also touched the rest of the
world. I was 7,000 mile away in Taiwan
when I listened to the recording of his
speech and watched the March on
television. His voice inspired millions
around the world about peace, freedom
and equality. When I came to the United
States after college, my dream was to get
a post-graduate education that would not
only enrich my own life but also to enable
me to contribute to the well-beings of
others. Working in the health insurance
field has given me that opportunity to
realize these personal aspirations. But
more importantly, through my own
experience over the years, I have come to
truly understand and appreciate the true
meaning of equality, inclusivity, respect
and service championed by Dr. King
during the civil rights movement--the
very same values that resonate with
Regence's beliefs in Servant Leadership
and diversity. I feel blessed that I can hold
on to the wonderful memories of the life I
left behind in Taiwan and, at the same
time, embrace and be part of a country of
diverse people and culture.”

LIVING OUR DREAMS
“As a long-time employee of Cambia, I
am fortunate to live my dream by working
every day in an environment that aligns
with my personal core values of trust,
accountability, commitment and
teamwork. Where mutual respect is at the
cornerstone of how we work and care for
each other. It is a place where I can
express my thoughts and ideas in a healthy
environment with open dialogue and
understanding. If I had one word to
describe my dream it would be
HOPE. Hope to me means unwavering
optimism and the appreciation that
anything is possible and can be achieved
with a healthy mind, body and spirit.”
“I live my dream by stepping out of my
realm of comfort. I am currently in
school working on my paralegal degree,
and when I found out that I could work
for medical firms as well, I couldn’t be
more excited. I mostly figured
paralegals could only work for lawyers,
but finding that out excited me because
that meant helping people in two fields.
When I applied for Cambia all I could
think of is how much this experience
would help me to achieve my goal and
be able to better assist people en route.
Needless to say, I was excited when I
heard that I would be able to move up
and venture out to different parts of
Cambia. When it comes to inclusion, I
enjoy getting the opportunity to be a part
of a team and contributing to doing
something that matters. It just feels good
to know that people can come together
as one and work toward the same goal of
helping others. One word describes my
dream is inspirational. I want my dream
to be an inspiration to others; I want
them to see me and think that they can
achieve the same if not more.”
“Prior to coming to Regence I
worked for a restaurant company
that spanned over a few states,
although this company was “family”
oriented I never felt
connected. When the economy
changed my job was eliminated and
my responsibilities transitioned to a
few other gals in the
company. Because the economy
changed I had to make some quick
decisions to make sure that my #1
priority was taken care of, my family
but I didn’t want to just settle. I
searched and searched for a job
when I happened upon a job opening
through the local Work Source
office, Regence was hiring Customer
Service Reps. I recall working with
Customer Service and with Dawn
Fyre, my then Group Administrator
and remember how fantastic their
customer service skills were that I
knew I had to apply. Since my
joining the Cambia family I have
been blessed with many
opportunities from Customer
Service, Training Member Services
& Membership and now Provider
Relations. This year my quest is to
find ways to give back to a great
company who has given me so
much!”

“I live my dream of representing
the underrepresented by pushing
for changes people need in lieu of
traditional business value.
Hearing the pains and difficulties
of others inspires me to bring the
awareness to my team members,
and to work towards solutions to
problems. My core value is
compassion; with it, our world
can be made more pleasant.”

LIVING OUR DREAMS
“At Cambia I’m moving toward my
dream of helping others. The
Affordable Care Act’s passage into
law ignited my passion toward a
career where people can take action
to do good for themselves. Access
would be the word I’d use to
describe my dream. I want to help
people access the healthcare system
to improve their lives. Minorities
have poorer health outcomes. At
Cambia, I can be a voice in the
community to help people improve
their lives by knowing what to do
for their well-being.”
“I live my dream on a daily basis by
giving back to those that are facing
harder circumstances that I am through
Candlelighters for Children with
Cancer. We help take care of the
whole family, regardless of what
differences they might have and
without judgment, with some of their
most basic needs like help paying rent
or gas money to get to the hospital, to
providing meals. I have long believed
in the word service, from the time I
was in the Air Force to the time I have
spent donating time and money to
causes I am passionate about. That is
one reason why I have really enjoyed
the past ten years I have worked at
Cambia, not only do we have a great
cause and core strategies but we as a
company believe in giving back within
the communities we are a part of. I
believe that we all have in us a need to
help others and to appreciate those that
are different from us.”
“I live my dream by owning my
responsibility to always examine my own
preconceived notions and stereotypes as
they are tested and challenged by events in
life both big and small. I strive to find
learning opportunities and situations where
I can grow in my knowledge of others and
their experiences. I remember being able
to attend a session on human rights at the
United Nations earlier in my career. I
made a commitment that day to their
pledge: “As a citizen of the world
community, I stand with the United
Nations against racism, discrimination and
intolerance of any kind. Throughout my
life I will try to promote equality, justice
and dignity among all people in my home,
my community and everywhere in the
world.” I remember taking this in and
having a piece of paper with this on it and
my commitment to keep it. To this day I
have it and it stays with me physically and
in spirit. This visit to the United Nations
took place on September 10, 2001. I
would have never imagined this
commitment could be tested so profoundly
by the horrific events that unfolded the
next day. Resilient: My dream, and
commitment, to stand against racism,
discrimination and intolerance of any kind
remain strong in the face of both
challenges and progress.”
“I live my dream every day by working
in an awesome environment that truly
lets me feel at peace and experience
those feelings of creativity, trust,
commitment and teamwork that I
crave. I am thankful to be able to work
in an environment that supports and
encourages diversity, teamwork, and
outreach (volunteering).
Two words to describe my dream
would be “compassion” and
“hope”. Compassion means
everything to me. Everything. I see
families at the overnight shelter every
single week and I see so much hope
from these families. I see them
showing compassion to one another,
even while dealing with
homelessness. I see and feel their hope
and it surrounds me like a warm
blanket. When I help these families,
the kids, even in a small way each
week, I am living my dream.”
“I live my dream through my
interactions with others. Wherever these
interactions take place, either at work,
with family, or even with complete
strangers, I try my best to be respectful
and friendly. To me this reflects
Cambia’s value of leadership because I
know that effective servant leadership
starts with the basic habit of treating
others as I would like to be treated. I’m
inspired by the value of inclusion
because the opportunity to engage and
diversify any team or environment will
lead to more innovation, positivity, and
growth. When inclusion happens, there
is a sharing of ideas, a collaborative and
solutions-oriented mindset, with more
skillsets to leverage too. This may make
any situation better. If it be a sports team
with diverse roles and skills, or within
business. Even personal growth can
happen from inclusion, and engaging
with others who hold different values.
One word to describe my dream would
be peace. Peace being, peace of mind,
peace on earth, peace to everybody’s
hearts and souls, and peace with God.”
