1. Remote Cultures
1) Overall Impression of both cultures
I thought that both cultures were interesting. I was more intrigued with the south
American culture because they were so distant from the other parts of the world. It was
interesting to know that they had no intentions on growing or doing any better than what they are
now. Their only concerns are having children and surviving. The other Appalachian culture was
confusing to me. I saw no real purpose behind it but I am just an outsider and my opinion does
not matter.
2) Implications (social, political, legal, religious, economics, others)
I do not agree with the American man who is 30 years old marrying a 14 year old girl. It
is illegal in America and since he is not a part of their culture there is no excuse for what he has
done. The Appalachian Americans seem pretty dangerous and they seem like they have a lot of
trouble with the law.
3) How do they compare to yours
I am a person of little needs. I don’t like all of the technological things we have in society now
because people have become so dependent on them. I just think that the minds of America are
deterioration and the creativity we all once had is now getting smaller due to the normality of
things and how people are all expected for the most part to think alike. This compares to the
ideas of the south American tribe.
4) Similarities between both cultures
Both cultures are unique and hard to understand.
2. 5) How do you think those cultures were created
I’m sure the south American culture was created thousands of years ago when the cavemen were
still around. I think the Appalachian culture was created because they were so secluded from the
other parts of the state and surrounding areas because of all of the mountains.
6) What would it take to integrate those cultures to ours, should we?
I don’t think there is anything a person can get out of the Appalachian culture except,
confident and individuality is most important in any person. But the south American culture
shows independence and shows that people can be happy without all of the unnecessary
technological innovations.
