  1. Brian GilmoreMcKenney’s Inc. Automation and Controls SolutionsAtlanta GeorgiaSpecialize in Energy Management Systems for Commercial Office Buildings, Data Centers, Health Care and Research and Television Production Facilities.
  2. BI for BuildingsEvery facility has an abundance of information that can be gathered, analyzed and leveraged for more energy-efficient operations. But you need to know where to look for it — and more importantly, what to do with it.McKenney’sbdoc Business Intelligence for Buildings, or BI for Buildings™, is a next-generation facility intelligence platform that leverages data generated by building control systems, enterprise applications, asset management systems and other associated facility management applications.McKenney's offers Splunk as part of its bdocsolution to help customers monitor data from devices such as chillers, boilers, air handlers, terminal units, valves, water pipes, lights, elevators, security doors, heating, A/C — anything that is critical to keep the physical infrastructure of the enterprise humming. With its open framework design, bdoc can be applied to a wide variety of buildings and environments. The application can be hosted at your facility or remotely in a secure data center. And whether your enterprise is small or large, located at one site or spread out across multiple locations, bdoc can accommodate a broad range of enhancements quickly.
  3. Commercial buildings represent just under one-fifth of U.S. energy consumption, with office space, retail space, and educational facilities representing about half of commercial sector energy consumption.Energy Management Systems are present in more than half of all buildings in the US larger than 100,000 square feet. The top three energy management end uses in the commercial sector are for space heating, lighting, and space cooling, which represent close to half of commercial site energy consumption.Commercial floor space and primary energy consumption grew by 58% and 69%, respectively, between 1980 and 2009. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects that they will continue to grow, but at slower rates between 2009 and 2035, 28% and 22%, respectively.
  4. Fault detection is recognizing that a problem has occurred, even if you don't yet know the root cause. Fault diagnosis is pinpointing one or more root causes of the fault to a level of detail where corrective action can be taken. Continuous commissioning is focusing on optimization of system operation and control for actual existing operating conditions. DOE reports that average measured utility savings from Continuous commissioning are about 20%, with simple paybacks often in less than two years Splunk’s Operational Intelligence Engine can be utilized to assist with Fault Detection, Diagnosis and Continuous Commissioning.
  5. Splunk is better at saving and storing historical data than native toolsData can be stored in intervals – typically once per minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutesIdeally data is stored on change of value – as and when the sensor measures the change data is indexed. This could produce a high definition historical/realtime hybrid model, offers DVR like capability for system operations.
  6. Data can be put into context Correlate energy consumption and facility operations with other business data.
