Summer Notes
Please note: for the months of July and August the Church Office will be closed on
Fridays. The office will be open, as usual, Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to
12 noon.
Rev’d. Janet will be away until August 7th, in case of a pastoral emergency, please
call Janet Baron 416-690-3858.
Please join us next Sunday, July 28th as we are blessed by the ministry of The
Reverend Joan Waters-Garner as Preacher and The Reverend Lee McNaughton
as Celebrant.
2. VACATION BIBLE CAMP RETURNS TO ST. NICHOLAS AUGUST 19 – 23, 2013 All
young people, aged 4-12, are invited to Gospel Light’s SonRise National Park
VBC- a five day adventure where we learn the most important survival skill of all:
that we can always depend on Jesus and His promises of true peace, true riches,
true power, true love and true hope! Registration forms are available on the
Manderley Bulletin board. Please return completed forms to the office.
Are you planning on attending Rev. Alison’s Induction at St. Martin’s on
Sunday September 22nd? St. Martin’s has contacted us, and they have limited
parking, and are arranging for overflow parking (with a bit of a walk to the church).
We are exploring the option of renting a school bus to take us all there and back
with no parking concerns. We need to know how many would be interested in doing
this, and it would need to be a fairly firm commitment. It could cost about $10.00
each. If you are interested in this, please add your name to the sign-up sheet on
the Manderley bulletin board before the end of July.
Summer is here, and even though our regular church school program has ended;
we will be providing a church school program during the summer
months. As with previous years, instead of splitting into three classes, we will be
offering one class for all ages and we will be using the "Seasons of the Spirit"
curriculum. If you are interested in teaching a class for a week or two, please feel
free to sign your name on the Church School sign-up sheet at the Manderley
Door entrance or speak to Angela McCullock (Church School Coordinator) during
Coffee Hour. New teachers are welcome!
Farewell and Every Blessing to Carmine: Carmine Lappano, our Organist and
Music Director, has submitted his resignation, effective September 1st. He will begin a
new music ministry in partnership with his wife, Michelle in Bowmanville. While this
news is sad for us, we are deeply grateful for the blessing of Carmine’s ministry over
the past two years and wish him, Michelle, and their family every blessing on this
new journey. Please join us on Sunday, August 25th following the 10:30 a.m. Service
for a special celebration in honour of Carmine.
A Thank you from Jo-Anne Billinger
On July 14th, I was Ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests at St. Mary's Church in
Richmond Hill where I am serving as Assistant Curate. I was so happy to see several
St. Nicholas Parishioners attend and celebrate that day with me along with Rev.
Janet. Many individuals were also there with me in their thoughts and prayers. The
music for the service was wonderful as several of the St. Nicholas choir members
came out to join the choir that day. Thank you to Janet Baron, Vicky Morgan,
Suzanne Lehtinen, Michael Braley and Bill Goodfellow and also to Pauline Glasgow
who led the Psalm reading and Janet Baron who presented the gifts at the Altar. A
great big thank you to the people and Parish of St. Nicholas for all of your
encouragement and support over these years, as I studied as a theological student
and moved toward Ordination. The Parish also provided a cash gift to me, which I will
use to purchase a pix and a cross for home communion. Best wishes and Blessings.

Ministry of Hospitality Opportunity-
In the letter to the Romans, Paul encourages us as a community to practice
hospitality. If you would like to participate in the ministry of hospitality by helping with
Coffee hour after the 10 a.m. service…
The Coffee Hour list posted on the Manderley Bulletin Board is quite empty!
Please consider taking a turn to prepare coffee, tea, and goodies. It doesn’t have to
be a big spread, a loaf or two or some cookies, or cheese and crackers, would be just
fine. If several people went together it makes it much easier - and fun. All you have
to do is bring milk and cream, and whatever food you want to provide. The sugar,
coffee and tea are here. Then take what you spent on the items you brought out of
the proceeds from the basket on the table.
In response to the suggestion from some of the 11 people in attendance in July, the
August Parables and Pints will be at Bluffers Park on August 13th. We'll meet at
the western parking lot (when you get to the bottom of the hill, keep right). Rain
location will be the pub overlooking the marina. We'll be talking about the parable of
the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13).

Bazaar News
Watch this space for information and ways you can help.
The Bazaar is set for November 2nd from noon – 3pm. Our Bazaar Committee this
year is Julia Hanson, Brian Jones, Suzanne Lehtinen. Speak to any one of them if
you have ideas, or suggestions, or would like to help in any way. If you’re new to the
parish, this is a fun way to help out and meet some of the other parishioners, and we’d
love to get some new people and their ideas involved in the process.
