SUMMARY
Lucy Gacheru - Director
Slujan Events
As we submit this post-show report of the 2nd Kenya Hospitality Trade
Fair and the Hotel Summit East Africa, we take this opportunity to thank
all our sponsors, partners, exhibitors and the hospitality industry at large for
supporting the events and contributing to their success.
During this time when Kenya is dealing with security concerns, the tourism
industry has been highly affected, the trade fair and conference provides a
pivotal platform for stakeholders to network, interact and discuss solutions
to the current state of the industry.
KHTF and HOSEA will continue to show the vast opportunities and interests
in the business of hospitality and hotels within the region. We do this by
creating platforms where businesses and brands can interact and engage
with the consumers at a deeper level, learn the latest trends in the industry,
source new products and gain new business contacts.
The trade fair, which ran from 14 - 16 May 2014, at the Kenyatta
International Convention Centre, Nairobi-Kenya attracted over 3,800
industry professionals looking to gain inroads to the industry and learn
from industry experts. This year the event attracted a high percentage of
new exhibitors drawn from the food and beverage industry and hospitality
supplies and equipment.
We were very proud to premier exciting event features in the exhibitions
industry. These included The Chefs Corner, The Coffee Baristas Challenge,
Wine Tasting Sessions and the Bartenders and Mixologists Pavilion.
I can confidently say that, even though we had our good share of challenges,
KHTF and HOSEA 2014 were a success, and through all this, the Slujan Events
team is working on making next year’s events even better. Our intention and
reality is to make our events distinctively unique, continue to grow, bring in
the right visitor profile and offer ROI.
As the largest and most influential hospitality supply show in the region, we
will continue to support the industry on all levels – delivering business results
and promoting exchange of knowledge.
We look forward to another successful show next year.
Kind Regards,
Director - Slujan Events Ltd.

KHTF 2014: PREMIER EVENT FEATURES
This year’s show went all out and introduced features that have never before been experienced in the
East African exhibitions industry and more specifically the hotels and hospitality industry. As we had
previously stated, our intention is to give our exhibitors an all-round experience in their engagement
with the visitors. Our features are interactive engaging and experiential, thus a buyer takes to their
establishment a tried and tested product or equipment.
A first in the hospitality industry, in partnership with
renowned celebrity chef Ali Said Mandhry, we delivered the
absolute showstopper of KHTF 2014. In conjunction with
leading chefs from Kenya, Chef Ali assisted by Chef Raphael,
also a well-loved household name in the culinary world, took
industry players through 3 days of pure culinary art in a live
cooking theatre.
Some of the top chefs that participated in the Chefs Corner were:
Chef Ali
L’artiste Chef Pastry
Chef Avraj Sing
Panafric
Chef Dominic Keya
Hilton
Chef Don Githua
Panafric
Chef Godfrey Ouda
Stanley
Chef Raphael Chef Rubia Zablon
Culinary Catering co.
The Chefs Corner is a concept that seeks to expose quality cooking
equipment in use by the chefs who are the key decision makers on
what is used in their kitchens. We would like to give the purchasing
managers, food and beverage managers, hotel owners, chefs and
industry stakeholders, that whatever is on exhibit at the fair is the best
quality for their establishments, In this environment, the opportunity
arose to taste, touch, feel and use the products on exhibit as they
were meant to be used, in their actual environment, by the most
vaunted names in the hotels industry.

We also had a live demonstration on the art of creating the perfect
cocktail and the different attributes of cocktails. Conducted by the
The Bar Project, and sponsored by East Africa Breweries Limited,
industry experts, players and stakeholders were taken through the
creativity behind cocktail creations that can be made with the in-
house drinks at their establishments. This was an opportunity for
the industry to gain ideas on attracting and retaining clients and
customers.

This was a liquid experience that sought to educate and
enlighten whisky enthusiasts on the need for quality
alcohol and beverage in their establishments. Designed
for mixologists, brewers, bartenders and sommeliers,
we created a space for whisky etiquette sessions as
well as tasting experiences sponsored by East Africa
Breweries Limited.
Taking the hoteliers through the history of whisky, it was
a prime opportunity to know about whisky, learn about
the vast variety of whisky brands and enlighten the
visitors on the different brands housed by EABL.
SPONSORS:
This was the ultimate coffee lovers and baristas delight.

As a trained professional chef, Raphael has over
the years acquired invaluable know how about
food, in and out of the kitchen working abroad and
here in Kenya. We are what we eat, is a phrase that
resonates closely with him, thus his passion to share
his skills and knowledge, using Kenyan ingredients
for Kenyan homes.
He envisions a Kenya whereby food is accorded the
appreciation it deserves. This can however be achieved
through a clear understanding and knowledge of the
food itself, the delicate procedure involved in preparation
while ensuring not only the taste and flavor’s but also
the nutrients are captured and enhanced. A vigorous
campaigner and educator of the values of homemade
food, Chef Raphael, understands the importance of
family bonding experience on the dinner table while
enjoying great home meals. The Chef understands, our
eating habits are factored into our mindsets. His objective
is to transform our perspective of good food. He firmly
believes that simplicity and understanding of food basics
is the key for people to acquire the skills to improve,
appreciate and derive pleasure in cooking. Chef Raphael
is happiest when sharing and imparting knowledge about
food and food handling skills, thus the idea behind the
cooking classes he offers.

place to understand the economic strength of industry players and explore the various
investments. Our ministry is glad to support such worthwhile initiatives.
MOEZ MANJI – MANAGING DIRECTOR, BENHAM INTERNATIONAL
We have found KHTF to be very effective. We got a good number of enquiries that

hoteliers aware of what is in the market and it is good to be seen.

CHEF ALI – L’ARTISTE PASTRY FACTORY
This is a very good initiative and a brilliant idea that I support and seeks to promote
Kenyan Chefs and their establishments at large. The industry is growing and we
cannot afford to be left behind. The introduction of interactive sessions in the
exhibitions industry goes to show that Kenya has a lot to offer in the hotel industry. We
got to have very good and intense discussions with key stakeholders in the industry
and this was a huge plus for the chefs.
CHEF RAPHAEL
This is a very noble platform for the chefs as it seeks to showcase their skills and
talent. In this kind of environment the hotel owners and influencers get to interact
with the most important person in the hotel – the Chef. We have been able to interact
with the hotel owners and managers, answered their concerns and we think this is a
platform we are happy to be part of.
