This case is about Anita Karr who is regular customer
of Zipcar and here in this case she has to go to attend
and take along her sister for her debut performance in
the music band but because of her changed behaviour
because of Zipcar, she has to face some awkward
situation which will be discussed before that have a
glance on what Zipcar is…

.Zipcar is a car rental company in the United States.
.Zipcar was founded in 2000 by Antje Danielson and Robin Chase.
.Zipcar provides automobile reservations to its members.
.Billable by the hour or day.
.Zipcar members pay a monthly or annual membership fee in
addition to car rental charges.

.On March 14, 2013 Avis Budget Group purchased Zipcar for
about US$500 million in cash.
.Zipcar operates as a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group.
.Scott Griffith, who had run the company for the previous 10
years, resigned the day after the acquisition closed, and
passed the reins to a new company president, Mark Norman.

All Plans had $25 as initial application processing fee.
Occasional Driving Plan: Annual Fee $50 + Daily/Hourly Usage.
Gas, Parking, Insurance and Maintenance
included. Automatic deduction from Credit Card.
Extra 50: Pre-paid monthly fee $50, 10% discount on monthly
usage + Extra fee if usage in excess of $50.If any
remaining balance was not carried forward.
Extra 75: Pre-paid monthly fee $75, 10% discount on monthly

1) Join: Complete online application. Once approved,
you’ll get your Zipcard. This magical, little card
unlocks thousands of cars, trucks and vans across the
globe.
2) Reserve: Book a Zipcar for a couple of
hours or the whole day. Do it online
or on your phone via Zipcar mobile app.
We are easy.
3) Unlock: Walk to the car and hold your Zipcard to the
windshield. The doors will unlock and it’s all yours.
4) Drive: Go! When your time is almost up, return the
car to the same reserved parking spot. Then you are all
done.

When considering rental cars over Zipcar, it's helpful to
play a little game of "OR":
1) Stand in line and wait for your rental car
OR
Skip jovially through the city waving to locals and whistling,
picking up your car around the corner?
2)Pay for gas and insurance
OR
Pay a low hourly or daily rate that includes gas, insurance and
mileage?

3)Race back to the rental lot sweaty and panicked to return your car
before 5:00PM
OR
Extend your reservation using your mobile device, and then finish
enjoying your dinner?
4)Listen to on-hold music for 45 minutes only to learn that the rental
office is closed for the day

5)Turn on the FM radio and adjust the mirrors on the four door

Reserve one of our luxury Zipcars and adjust to being comfortable.

- Is a Zipster who lives in Cambridge
- Booked a VW Jetta Jericho which she had to pick up at 4 pm from
Charles Hostel
- Has to pick her sister up at 4.30 pm for her debut performance at
Rhode Island at 6 pm.
.Sal Fishman
- Is another Zipster who has hired the same car for his interview.
-He picked up car at 1 pm and was supposed to drop the car back at
3:30 pm at Charles Hotel from where Anita was supposed to pick car.
-The interview went on for a long and he was not able to drop the car
back
.Now Fishman is in dilemma whether to return the car or extend the
reservation.

*People were neither buying the cars and nor they were
taking cars on rent because of car sharing system
introduced by Zipcar.
*People were selling out their old cars and vehicles and
instead were using Zipcar services as said by Tara Diab.
*Zipcar had positioned themselves as a low cost alternative
to all other options.

.As we can see in the case the new system of car sharing by
Zipcar was very much accepted by the people and it lead to
a great change in the behaviour of the people towards the
conventional ways of owning and renting a car as Zipcar was
very much cost efficient and convenient.
.But it is also leading to some problems like over reliability,
communication gap and no alternates. So to overcome this
problem Zipcar should focus on them using the solutions
provided.
