Reading: Summarizing- Self-Assessment and Goal-Setting Sheet Name _ Date _ Directions: (1) Put a check mark by the things you do well as a reader when summarizing. (2) Highlight the things you think you need to work on to become a better reader. o I read the text features and predict the main idea. o I reflect on my prediction and either confirm or revise it. o I read the text features and think how they relate to the main idea. o I notice boldface and italic words and think how they relate to the main idea. o I read subheadings and titles and think how they relate to the main idea. o I identify a section of text that I can read and remember. o I stop at the end of a section of text to connect, visualize, or remember what I've read. o I answer questions I have asked. o I reread to verify important ideas. o I reread to clarify meaning. o I reread to choose supporting details and facts. o I eliminate unimportant details.
