3. I produced and handed out 20 copies of these questionnaires for 20 different people to answer.
I tried to find a large variety of people so the answers would be different and there would be a
less chance of bias answers. With these answers, the choices I make about designing will be
partly influenced by the answers featured on this questionnaire.
I first asked a general question just asking the age. I chose the age as Teenagers from the
average age from 13 to 18 to adults to the age of around 25 will be interested in to the music
genre that our project is focusing on.
I jump into the subject of advertisements in the second question asking what mostly attracts the
audience to the advertisements. The options within the question were: The artist, the design,
the colours and/or the image. The artist was the highest chosen answer out of all the choices.
This could insinuate that the artist will need a high reputation for the audience to take notice of
the visual advertisement. The design was the second highest chosen option. Having a good
visual idea of the design that will be original can be eye-catching. This will intrigue the audience
when they come across the advertisement.
The 3rd question related to the genre that the group is focusing on, Electro-pop. 2 people
considered that the genre was ‘Hyper’ and ‘Energetic’. The highest choice that was chosen
was ‘Fast’. This gives the illusion of bright colours, fast music almost a psychedelic, ‘trippy’
effect.
The large majority of people who answered, ‘Do you make a note of when an album first comes
out?’ chose no. How ever, the remainder (8) said they did. This could suggest that the
advertisement is a reminder of when an album comes out and the date is not ignored, however,
it is helpful to have a date featured on the advertisement so the people who are informed when
the album is out.
The next question I asked was ‘what do you think is the most important visual element on an
advertisement is?’ The image was the most chosen by far out of the choices Font, image and
colours. I will take this into consideration when designing the advertisement as the image is the
main eye catching feature that in featured on a visual piece.
I then put up a selection of colours asking what colours were found to be more appealing and
eye-catching. This will be used as an outline of what shades and colours that should be most
considered to use in the design.
For the design, our group discussed possible themes of what the design could look like. We
looked at various fonts and selected a few that we would think would be suitable for the link of
the album cover. The most chosen font was ‘academic’ this font goes with the theme of naivety.
With this font being taken into consideration, the style of the font is best described as
‘American old school’ I think this really fits in with the naïve, playful theme our group is trying to
achieve to portray the electro pop genre.
I selected 2 advertisements to place in this questionnaire and asked which one was preferred.
The outcome came to Example’s advertisement, instead of the black ghosts. I think that this
appealed more as the design is more eye-catching and bright which attracts more attention
compared to the black, simple black ghost advertisement.
4. I asked, ‘what would you rather see on an advert? Graphics, or images? The majority
answered graphics. I think that this would be an intrestin approach with more creativity
involved.
The last question I asked, was ‘Do you think that an advertisement design could affect the
class and/or culture?’ The majority answered yes, which I think is true as I think are more urban
design would appeal more to young working class people compared to it trying to attract upper
class young people.
