Jesse Dylan
Jesse Dylan is a filmmaker and CEO and creative director of FreeForm, a full-
service production company with a focus on corporate social responsibility and
social media. In addition, he a prolific director behind some of the most
successful campaigns in commercial television, print and interactive advertising.
He is the co-founder and co-owner of Form, a commercial production company
that has created award-winning commercials for clients including Nike, Nintendo,
Motorola, American Express, NFL, and MTV.
Recently, Dylan’s work has focused on telling the stories of the world's most
innovative projects, people and organizations. He was a creative director for the
iParticipate campaign for the Entertainment Industry Foundation
(iParticipate.org), tying together film, print and social media in the service of
inspiring volunteerism across the United States. He directed the public service
announcements, including a print campaign, for Stand up to Cancer (SU2C.org),
an organization committed to fostering collaboration in cancer research. He also
directed a film for The European Organization for Nuclear Research about the
newly completed Large Hadron Collider.
At the vanguard of the collective intelligence community, Dylan dedicates himself
to his non-profit medical website Lybba.org. The hope behind Lybba is that all of
the world’s medical knowledge will be available in an open forum, free of charge,
in simple, easy-to- understand language. He is also an active member of several
organizations dedicated to growing our understanding of the world in an effective
and equitable way. He is a fellow at Science Commons and serves on the board
of Public Knowledge, a Washington, D.C.-based public interest group working to
defend citizens' rights in our emerging digital culture.
Sandy Pentland
Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Alex “Sandy” Pentland is a
pioneer in organizational engineering, mobile information systems, and
computational social science. His focus is the development of human-centered
technology, and the creation of ventures that take this technology into the real
world.
He directs the MIT Human Dynamics Laboratory, helping companies to become

2. more productive and creative through organizational engineering, and the Media
Lab Entrepreneurship Program, which helps translate cutting-edge technology
into global real-world impact. He is among the most-cited computer scientists in
the world, and in 1997, Newsweek magazine named him one of the 100
Americans likely to shape this century.
Richard Buchanan
Richard Buchanan teaches information systems at the Weatherhead School of
Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to
joining the university, Buchanan was a professor and director of doctoral studies
at the Carnegie Mellon School of Design. He also served as chair of the school
for 10 years. Buchanan taught design theory in the traditional areas of
communication design and industrial design, but also extended design thinking
into new areas of application such as interaction design and organization design.
His work focused on the rhetorical dimensions of design.
He is an editor of Design Issues, an international journal of design history, theory
and criticism published by the MIT Press. From 2000 to 2006, he was president
of the Design Research Society, a multi-disciplinary design research society
based in the United Kingdom. Among his numerous publications are “Discovering
Design: Explorations in Design Studies,” “The Idea of Design,” and “Pluralism in
Theory and Practice.”
The COINs 2010 Conference, Oct. 7–9, 2010 is sponsored by Galaxy Advisors,
I-OPEN, and the COINs Collaborative, an initiative of the Savannah College of
Art and Design, Wayne State University College of Engineering-Department of
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and the Massachusetts Institute of
