Windows InTune

Notas del editor

  1. End-users are becoming more tech-savvy and demand greater flexibility in the way they work, where and how they access information and what devices they use. An increasing number of employees are mobile today and need to work from anywhere, at any time and on a broad range of devices. The user expectation is that they should be able to use the device they choose, wherever they happen to be, to access the applications and tools they need to get their work done. These changing workstyles present many exciting opportunities, but will also change the traditional IT business approach.
  2. To address this shift in the way people work, cloud computing and online services have become increasingly popular and are changing the face of IT. Cloud computing is becoming more established and millions of businesses are already taking advantage of the efficiencies and flexibility the cloud offers. SaaS, Software As A Service, takes advantage of the cloud infrastructure to deliver applications over the Internet. According to IDC, “…by 2014, about 34% of all new business software purchases will be consumed via SaaS…”Microsoft is committed to the cloud: evolving existing products and expertise to creating new cloud-based offerings and building the infrastructure to support cloud services. We’ve seen great momentum already with our existing cloud solutions. User by over 50% of the Fortune 500Over 58% of CIOs surveyed in a research study by ISI selected Microsoft as their vendor of choice for cloud servicesWe have over 40,000 accredited partners who are ready to sell Microsoft online servicesAs you can see from our breadth of cloud services to date, Windows Intune builds on our history of delivering cloud services at scale – with services like Hotmail and Windows Update –for over a decade…and most recently, with Office 365 and Azure. We offer a 99.9% financially backed SLAAs a leader in business software, Microsoft provides a comprehensive set of cloud services with the reliability and enhanced security your expectwith geo-redundant datacenters and compliance with industry security standards.
  3. Windows Intune plays a key role in bringing the advantages of the cloud help businesses manage their PCs and devices, wherever they happen to be.. Let’s look at the ways that the cloud can change desktop management. Your workers depend on you to keep their PCs and devices up and running—whether they are in the theoffice or on the road—so that they can be most productive. But this can be challenging given the complexities surrounding an organization’s PC infrastructure and the complexity that is introduced by employees bringing their own PCs and mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, into the work environment. With workers in many locations – in the corporate office, branch office, coffee shops, home office – ensuring their PCs are up to date and secure can be a challenge when PCs aren’t physically in the office or connected to the corporate network. PCs are running multiple configurations, versions, and licenses With PC’s spread across these locations – some with corporate network access and some with just an Internet connection - IT professionals noted that a lack of insight to all their PCs impaired their ability to efficiently identify and resolve issues. For instance, there were times when IT couldn’t confirm that security patches and updates had been validated and deployed on remote PCs. Adding user owned devices into the mix adds complexity and risk. Users want access to data an apps across all their devices. IT wants to keep the corporate data assets safe.On-premises management solutions that could address some of these needs require high upfront infrastructure investments – in both technology costs and deployment time and are not always the most efficient route for managing highly mobile employees and their devices. Microsoft has designed Windows Intune™ to help you meet these challenges and ultimately help your end users be more productive. With Windows Intune, you can:Help manage and better protectPCs nearly anywhere with the cloud service componentGive your users the flexibility to use the devices they want without adding excessive burden to IT or security risk to the business.Leverage cloud services and the Windows Upgrade License to drive efficiencies for your business and leverage the existing investments you’ve made to reduce cost and complexity. In order to demonstrate how Windows Intune can deliver this value, I’d like to talk a little bit about the underlying technology in Windows Intune.
  4. So how can Windows Intune help you manage and secure PCs anywhere? The cloud service component in Windows Intune is delivered through a single, easy-to-use Web-based console. Thru this console, IT professionalscan complete a broad range of PC management and security tasks for all Windows Intune-managed PCs. All that’s needed is an Internet connection and the Windows Intune client installed on each PC they wish to manage. With Windows Intune, IT can:(Italic items are examples)Help Protect PCs from malware with centralized protection built on the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine. This leverages the same trusted technologies as Forefront Endpoint Protection and Microsoft Security Essentials. Centrally manage the deployment of updates to Microsoft® and now, most third-party software, keeping the applications your workers need currentDistribute software: One of the top feature requests for Intune since we’ve been in market has been software distribution. And with this release, we are pleased to share that we’ve now added this capability. Deploy most software like Microsoft Office 2010 or third-party applications, to PC located nearly anywhere. You don’t need to have a server infrastructure or physically touch each PC to install the software or update. Proactively monitor PCs: Receive alerts on updates, threats, offline PCs and more so that you can proactively identify and resolve problems with your PCs virtually anywhere. With this latest release, you can configure alert types to be reported according to a specified threshold, frequency, or number or percent of computers affected. This helps IT pros be as proactive as they would like about potential issues and provides them early insight into the magnitude of the issue. With remote assistance included,IT can deliver remote management and protection to keep both IT and end-users productive from virtually anywhere. And with this October release, we’ve further enhanced remote support that can be delivered - IT can now remotely perform the following tasks on Windows Intune managed PCs from the administration console - Full scan, Quick scan, Restart, Update Malware Definitions.  Track hardware and software inventory to help customers in IT planning and asset management purposes. Manage your licenses: Manage Microsoft Volume License Agreements and other license agreements - such as Microsoft retail and OEM licenses, as well as third party software - to track how many licenses you’ve purchased against what you’ve installed. Increase insight with reporting: Generate and save reports on updates, software, hardware, and licenses. Export data as a comma separated value file and import it directly into Microsoft Excel® for further analysis. With the new hardware filters, you can create detailed hardware reports. Across all report types, you can now save report parameters, making it easy to run a specific report again in the future if your environment has changed. For example, you can now create reports identifying PCs with low disk space or PCs with less than 2GB RAM and be more proactive about potential hardware issues so they can recommend next steps or needed upgrades before a user runs out of hard disk space and experiences performance issues. Set security policies. Centrally manage update, firewall, and malware protection settings across all PCs, even on remote machines outside the corporate network. We’re excited to share our second release this year with these latest features and enhancements. It’s important to note however that the core architecture remains unchanged - each new update builds upon the prior version, so regardless of when Windows Intune customers purchase the service, they will automatically get the latest and greatest features available. Microsoft continues to evolve Windows Intune, delivering richer functionality without compromising simplicity. These updates will further help IT professionals ad partners deliver proactive PC management and security - in new ways but with less costs and higher IT and end-user productivity.
  5. So what does Windows Intune mean for you? As long as your subscription is active, you’ll always be up to date and current with new features or updates to both the cloud service and the Windows operating system In arecent study from IDC in which Windows Intune early beta testers were surveyed, research showed that businesses using Windows Intune can save nearly $700 annually per PC through improvements in IT and user productivity.

Windows Intune also includes Windows 7 Enterprise upgrade rights to give businesses an opportunity to standardize their PC environment on the latest version of Windows and reduce complexity in their PC environment. Windows Intune customers may also exercise downgrade rights and standardize their PC environment on the Windows version of their choice.
  8. Now you understand the opportunity and proposition for your business, let’s take a look at why your customers should be interested in what Windows Intune can do for their business – whether they choose to manage their PCs themselves, or choose to use your services to do it for them. There are a number of opportunities from smaller business all the way up to the enterprise where Windows Intune can help. For organizations with unmanaged PCs, Windows Intune can deliver the management and security essentials. Some examples of unmanaged PCs are:Off-network employees: Employees who may be working from home or a coffee shop that don’t have access the corporate network. Field and Contract employees: Full-time, roaming employees or short-term employees using corporate PCs that infrequently connect to the corporate network. For example, a 100,000 seat business may have 5,000 sales personnel who are constantly on the road or may not be domain joined. A Highly Distributed Workforce with a large number of geographically dispersed offices and workers that make management using a corporate-based infrastructure challenging. Early Cloud Adopters: Interested in moving IT infrastructure to the cloud or reduce server footprint—and are willing to make other tradeoffsQuick Deployment Scenarios: Customer needs a solution that can be setup very quickly. This could be the case for companies that do frequent acquisitions and need to roll out management and security to the acquired company quickly. Limited IT Resources: Some IT departments maybe limited in manpower to deploy and manage on-premises solutions and configure internet-facing infrastructures to manage from anywhere. Windows Intune is simple and quick to set up and can be used right away to manage both corporate and mobile PCs. And because Windows Intune enables you to manage on behalf of your customer, you can plug the shortfall in their resources.Although Windows Intune can deliver value in these scenarios, we recommend your customers use System Center if the following requirements or limitations apply to them:Need to manage more thank 5,000 PCs. Although the technical limit for an account is 20,000 PCs per account, the experience is really fruitful for managing pockets of unmanaged PC’s in very large organizations or across an organization of 5,000 PCs or less. Poor bandwidthIf they have advanced management requirements like advanced software distribution, active directory federation, OS deployment and so forth. Or if they are looking for a single management solution to manage all your PCs and mobile devices.
  9. We’ve taken you through the functionality of Windows Intune and what our long term strategy is, but you may still be wondering which management solution is right for your customer today – our online, cloud-based solution or our traditional on-premises management stack. Across both offerings – online and on-premises, we are committed to delivering deliver best-in-class management to customers with the flexibility to choose the solution that fits their business needs best. At the foundation of a well-managed PC environment is the operating system and with either solution your customers choose, they will have upgrade rights to the latest, premium Windows Operating System –today that would be Windows 7 Enterprise. Customers also have access to MDOP if they need – it’s available as an add-on for $1 per month per device for Windows Intune customers who don’t have a Software Assurance agreement. On the left here, you see Windows Intune - a lightweight, cloud-based solution that does not require any on-premises infrastructure. Microsoft hosts and maintains the service. It’s an ideal solution for businesses with unmanaged or lightly managed PCs that needs the essentials of management and protection – this means updates, the latest malware protection, inventorying. For businesses interested in a solution they can get up and running quickly, either for their entire PC infrastructure or pockets of PC’s, Windows Intune can help. On the right side, you see our on-premises stack that delivers a fully featured, full lifecycle offering which includes System Center, Forefront Endpoint Protection, and the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. For larger organizations with more sophisticated management needs and available resources and bandwidth to deploy and maintain an on premises solution, our on-premises offering is ideal. System Center Configuration Manager is our hero management offer for enterprise customers today. Microsoft will continue to invest in innovation across both these products so customers have the greatest choice in determining which solution is right for them.
