The purpose of this presentation is to introduce you to the
usability checklist created by Tiffini Travis and Aaron Tay

By the end of this session you should be able to

Identify elements that encompass intuitive design

Use heuristics to evaluate mobile website design

Conduct usability testing at your own institution
Mobile usability?
The worst thing any librarian can say in the
course of web design is… “well I don’t
think students….” and not do the most
reasonable thing: ASK THEM

                But FIRST….

Heuristic evaluation
is a proven method for discovering both major
and minor problems in a user interface.


Heuristic testing detects 42 percent of major
design problems and 32 percent of minor
issues

Creating a mobile usability
checklist
  To formulate a checklist for mobile design the following
  research questions were used to guide the process:

   What current design features exist in mobile
    library websites and databases

   What principles of usability have been developed
    for mobile interfaces and library sites and mobile
    library websites

   What are the results of using the mobile checklist
    with current mobile library websites

Traditional usability testing is a way to reveal
problems in site design as well as the needs and
attitudes of your users. Components include:

Pre-Test of knowledge and attitudes
Task performance evaluation
Evaluate navigation while performing task as well as
thought process
Post-Test of attitudes and experience
Task-based Evaluation

Creating a mobile usability checklist To formulate a checklist for mobile design the following research questions were used to guide the process:  What current design features exist in mobile library websites and databases  What principles of usability have been developed for mobile interfaces and library sites and mobile library websites  What are the results of using the mobile checklist with current mobile library websites
