Sulfosulfuron EMEA
• Sulfosulfuron is a selective herbicide for postemergence
control of weeds in wheat and triticale.
• It can be applied up to 2‐node stage of wheat
• Sulfosulfuron controls major cereal grass species, and some
dicots
– Apera spica‐venti
– Bromus spp.
– Elymus repens
– Avena fatua
– Volunteer barley
• The uses rates range from 10 – 20 g a.i./ha
• Non ionic surfactant should be mixed to the product

Sample collection across Europe
254 Apera samples tested

EMEA
of Volunteer Barley in UK
Monitor applied at 25g/ha will stop volunteer barley growing resulting in a
stunted volunteer below the wheat canopy.
Depending on timing barley grains will be shrivelled and not viable.
Applications up until latest crop timing will have good results.

Summary EMEA
• Sulfosulfuron controls well the important grass weeds harmful
in Central‐East Europe in winter wheat
• Several mixture partners can be used to broaden activity
against dicots
• Good agricultural practice should be followed to prevent
resistance development

GAP recommendation to EMEA
prevent resistance
• In monoculture rotate mode of action
• Under unfavorable conditions avoid antagonizing mixture
partners or use sequential application (7‐10 days interval)
• Use the recommended rate at right timing to actively growing
weeds
• Always add surfactant
• Calibrate sprayer for accurate dosing
• Avoid application at very low temperature or frost
• In oil seed rape control grasses

Summary EMEA
• Acetochlor is one of the most efficient pre‐emergence active
substances
• Acetochlor works well under dry conditions
• Acetochlor can be used in versatile ways
• No resistance developed despite extensive use.
