2. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My magazine does not follow conventions as a traditional magazine would have the title at the top with a picture and some information about what is inside and other pictures that are reflected on the inside of the magazine. The layout of my magazine has one picture dominating the front page with a title at the top and a rhetorical question close to the bottom in a large black banner i wanted to use this so it would look effective and draw the readers in. The colours on the front page of my magazine are quite dark this contrasts with the contents page and double page spread as they both have lighter pictures. There is no barcode or price on the front of my magazine as i wanted to keep it as plain as possible so the barcode will be on the back cover of the magazine. 3. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The main social groups are age, gender and race. Age is split into other smaller sections such as children, teenagers and adults. Gender can be separated into males and females. Race is categorised by peoples religion; this could be Christianity or Hinduism. My magazine is aimed at teenagers and mainly females, this is two social groups. For my magazine race is not an issue as the product should appeal to all teenage girls no matter what their religion as long as they like indie music. The pictures in my magazine reflect the age of the social groups that my magazine is aimed at. My magazine suggests that people in these social groups that purchase my magazine are bothered by the image of themselves and other people. Also it shows that they like to know about other peoples opinions and how these reflect their own. Media Evaluation Media Evaluation Media Evaluation Media Evaluation
4. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? My magazine would be sold at a shop that sells music magazines so if a customer was going into a shop to get a magazine then my product would also be found in that place. Another place that would be a good are to sell my music magazine would be in an indie music shop as this would be a good place to get potential customers to notice my product. Another way to distribute my magazine could be by digitally publishing online, as 17% of all magazines are published this way it would be a popular way to distribute the product. My magazine could also be given away in stores where the target audience would be, for example in music shops or clothes shops. Profit from this will be made from the advertisements. 5. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product? For my media music magazine project the audience that I am trying to attract would be teenagers that are interested in the Indie music scene. My product is also more aimed at females so this would also be a target audience. my product reflects this by having the same age group of people in the pictures as the target audience also there are no models on my product that are male this also shows how it is aimed more at females. 6. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? my product attracts its target audience by having a simple front cover that will draw the reader in and make them want to see more of the magazine. the contents page model has the same style as most of the target audience so this should help to appeal to them. 5. To get the attention of the audience and promote the magazine I would use posters to advertise and entice the audience into buying the product. The cover of my product should attract the audience as it is astatically pleasing also it will appeal to them as it is a picture taken from a live concert and it is something that the audience can relate to. On the double page spread the writing and content of the article is written for teenager's so this means that it is not too simple for them so they would feel patronised or get board of reading and also it is not to advanced that they don’t understand what they are doing. 7. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? From this project I have learnt how to use the website blogger.com before my project I had not heard of this site. Although I did have the knowledge of using other social networking sites such as bebo.com i had to learn all the features on blogger.com from scratch and i feel that i have learnt how to use this site well and if i had to use it again any time in the future then i would not have a problem doing this. Also using fireworks and the more complicated aspects of it. I have never used slide share before and I learnt how to use this for the first time. I have also learnt how to use different features on my digital camera that I have not needed to use before now, such as the timer, this has helped me a lot in the development of my product and will also be useful in the future. 8. 7. looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? In my progression from the preliminary task to the full product i feel that i have learnt how to manage my time better. On the full project my time was managed well as all of my work was completed to the deadline, however on my preliminary task the work had to be handed in a day after the deadline this was because i had not managed my time well. i feel that i have also learnt how to use different software to the best of my ability such as fireworks and publisher to make my products look better and more appealing to the customer.
