Creativity Through New Ideas
Water Resources Engineers design solutions for problems associated with the management of our water
and land resources to ensure multi-faceted protection of this invaluable resource. By studying every aspect
of the hydrological cycle, our graduates strive to meet the global demand for clean, plentiful
water, with solutions that are both environmentally sustainable and economically viable. Continued
population growth requires the expertise of University of Guelph Water Resource Engineers to identify
and evaluate watershed management options, design flood and erosion control systems and to protect
and control our rivers, lakes and groundwater supplies.
University of Guelph Advantage
In addition to core engineering analysis and design courses, all Water Resources and Engineering students
will cover:
• Hydrology
• Geomorphology Water Quality Analysis Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Soil Mechanics and Soil-Water Interactions
• Groundwater Quality and Quantity Soil and Water Conservation
• Surface and Subsurface Drainage Irrigation
• Watershed Systems Design
• Environmental Engineering Systems
• Urban Water Supply and Sewer Design
Students are available for four or eight month work terms.
Student Strengths
• Fundamental knowledge of engineering concepts, as well as physical, mathematical and biological sciences
• Strong independent research skills developed through the design process, management and financial
feasibility analysis
• Participation in design groups to develop effective problem solving, communication and teamwork skills
to resolve environmental issues in industrial, municipal and agricultural settings
Typical Co-op Jobs Include:
• Storm Drainage Assistant
• Policy Analyst
• Designers, Planners and Researchers
• Soil and Water Conservationists
• Urban and Watershed Modelling
