Hello Grove Nation!
As part of our nation-wide Grove Green Project, we’ll be kicking off our very own Urban Reforestation
Program this Arbor Day! We’re thrilled to invite you to change the planet with us. On Arbor Day, Earth
lovers across the country plant trees to honor the work forests do for us all over the planet—converting
carbon dioxide back into oxygen for us. This Arbor Day, The Grove will go one better. We’re not just
going to plant trees. We’re going to start cultivating our very own urban forests.
What is an urban forest?
Urban Forest(ûr‘ bәnfôr‘ әst)n. Dynamic ecosystems that provide environmental services such as clean
air and water; cool cities and save energy; improve air quality; strengthen quality of place and local
economies; reduce storm water runoff; improve social connections; complement smart growth; and
create walkable communities.
While we don’t have vast tracts of land to restore, we can improve the green spaces right outside our
front doors. Our spaces are perfect for cultivating our urban forests. Trees purify our air and water, cool
our cities, save energy, create animal habitats, and beautify urban environments. If we want our planet
to thrive, we need to cultivate our trees. And now, the trees need you.
Over the next year, we’ll add one plant for every Grove resident to our urban forests across the nation.
We’ll be bringing in the first stage plantings for our Urban Forest on April 24, 2012. Shovels and
refreshments will be provided. Join us in welcoming our new additions and helping them get settled in.
Big change starts with small choices. What will you do to make the world better this Arbor Day?
