Eagle Ford Shale Guide for Owners- Tejas Minerals PowerPoint
1. History of the Eagle Ford Shale
• The Eagle Ford Shale is a sedimentary rock
formation that spans through South and East
Texas.
• The name of the region was derived from an
old community called Eagle Ford, which is
now a neighborhood in Dallas, Texas.
• The play is 50 miles wide and an average of
250 feet thick at a depth between 3,500 and
12,500 feet.
• The oil and natural gas fields in the regions
are very rich.
• The oil reserved in the Eagle Ford Shale is
estimated to be around 3 billion barrels with
a potential output of over 400,000 barrels
per day.
2. Depositional Environment in the Eagle
Ford Shale
• The Eagle Ford Shale had a sea level
depth of 100 meters and deposited
about 25-50 kilometers from the
shore.
• The depositional environment for the
lower beds of the shale was low
energy and slightly anoxic.
• The lower section of the Eagle Ford is
made up of organic rich, fossiliferous
marine shale that mark the deepest
water during the Eagle Ford
deposition.
• The different plants throughout the
region also suggest that the waters
were calm and shallow.
3. Drilling in the Eagle Ford Shale
• The Eagle Ford Shale has some of the best
producing oil and gas wells in the country,
even rivaling offshore production.
• During 2010, the separation between oil, wet
gas, and dry gas became very well defined.
Due to this phenomenon, the permitting and
drilling practices shifted from the southern
region to the northern region of the Eagle
Ford Shale.
• During 2011, operators acquired more
detailed information about thickness and
permeability in various zones.
• The Eagle Ford Shale has proved to be
successful thus far, yet we will see if the
popularity of the region leads to faster
decline rates in the future.
4. Why Sell Your Mineral Rights?
• Clean up your land and save
your heirs from the
complicated title transfer
process
• Pay off debt (credit cards,
mortgages, loans, medical
bills, etc.)
• Reinvest your assets into safer
investments
• Put an end to additional
paperwork and record keeping
