FOOLS!
What do you say when you
(accidentally) fire an employee?
In the spirit of April Fools, let us share a
true story with you:
Meet Julie.
Julie is fresh out of
school, hired to
run HR for a call
centre
They’d never really had the HR function and
there were challenges everywhere.
No policies.
No procedures.
No recruiting program.
No onboarding process.
No engagement practices.
No performance management.
During Julie’s first
week, the CFO called
her into his office.
Her task: Fire Tom.
Julie was given a
script, the protocol,
and questions for an
exit interview.
Julie called Tom into her office. After a
couple of minutes, he was relieves of his
responsibilities and left the building.
Later that day, the CFO popped into
Julie’s office for an update.
CFO: “So, how did it go?”
Julie: “It’s always uncomfortable to let
people go but all things considered, it
went pretty well.”
CFO: “If it went pretty well, why is Tom
still sitting at his desk???”
Julie had fired the wrong Tom!
