1. Why I should get to go
to New York for Spring
Break
By Emilie Muskrat
(I thought the piano layout was appropriate)
2. … It was an 89.
Last year, I ended with an 81 in AP US History. The year
before that, a 93 in AP World. Before that, an 86 in
Government. An 89 is one of my highest history grades,
and considering the fact that I raised it from a 79 in only a
few weeks to have an A on that report card, I think an 89 is
pretty great. It just doesn’t look as good as a 90.
3. BROADWAY
It’s not a real reason, I just wanted to make sure that you
know that I REALLY REALLY want to see a show on
Broadway. Like, REALLY really want to.
4. My grades in every other class were a 91 or higher. Three were
a 97 or higher. I even had a 95 in Math. If anything, I
certainly wasn’t slacking off.
6. My numeric average overall for my four years of high school
so far is a 90.57 with last semester’s average added. Without
last semester, it would be an 89.
… Another 89.
7. I’ve never been rewarded for good grades. Don’t get me
wrong, it’s the right policy to have; I should get good grades
regardless of whether or not I’ll be rewarded. But it was
great motivation, and they were the best grades I’ve ever
gotten. The fact that this is the first time I could be
rewarded and had a goal that I was working so hard to
reach, something that was tangible and possible, and a
single grade point could keep me from that… what a
downer!
9. Oh yeah, and that really big toy store that has basically every
toy you could possibly want…
… and the Empire State Building…
… and the Statue of Liberty…
… and SO MUCH MORE!
10. I’ve never been to New York. I’ve heard so much about it, of
course, and I’ve always wanted to go, for so many reasons.
It would be so UNBELIEVABLY crappy if I didn’t get to go
because of one measly point, especially when I did so well
in my other classes and showed so much improvement. I
worked really hard to get those grades, and I think getting
an 89 in History instead of a 90 was just dumb luck. I did
really well on that exam, and I really struggle with that
class. Please don’t punish me because I’m not a historian. I
really did work hard.
11. P.S. … Just in case you didn’t get it….
