The platypus is a small mammal.
It is furry and brown
They have spores on their ankles that look like
claws
the platypus also has a duck like bill and a beaver
like tail
the platypus has webbed feet for swimming in
the water

environment , like the dark logs/driftwood and the
browny mud on the river bank
4. How do they defend themself ?
The males have ankle spurs
that produce poison powerful
enough to kill small animals
like dogs and cause extreme
pain to humans
all platypuses are born with
this spur but females ankle
spurs fall off at a young age

They have a variety of sounds
A platypus -when disturbed, makes a growling sound like
the one you can hear
6. Where can you find a platypus
The platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal living
in Eastern Australia and Tasmania. It can be
found in and near freshwater streams and lakes.
the platypus lives in a simple ground burrow
untill the female has babies then the female
constructs a deeper more complex burrow with
blocked off parts- this is thought to be a defense
from predators
7. How platypuses get food
Platypuses are the only known mammal to use
electrolocation to find prey- they locate prey by
detected electric fields made by muscles
movement
The platypus is a carnivore and eats insect
larvae, worms freshwater shrimps and yabbies
(freshwater crayfish)
8. Breeding habits
Platypus are one of the only mammals that lay
eggs.
When platypus are born the mother platypus
produces milk through pores in there skin - the
female platypuses body has grooves in its skin to
group milk into puddles
