1. MY VIDEO OF LONDON CALLING
HAS DEVELOPED THE CONVENTIONS
FOR THE ORIGINAL VIDEO FOR
LONDON CALLING BY THE CLASH

2. The original video has only used one iconic image from London which is The
Big ben which is a still image and this is at the beginning of the video as you
get further into the video we can see that it is only this image in which has
been showed of London and the rest of it performance which shows that
they haven’t really got a narrative it is all about creating an ideology for the
band.
I have developed the conventions of the original
music video by not only using one image of
London which they have done by using the Big
Ben but by using many which meant less
performance and more narrative I have used
pictures in which you can clearly see that it is
London such as the tube stations the tube itself,
London bridge, Tower of London and lots of
people showing the business of London
everything part of London links to a the
narrative as it is all about London calling. I think
that it looks really effective and creates more
for the audience to look at and be engaged by. I
have took the one image from the original video
and took it one step forward and I think the way
that I have developed the conventions of the
music video in this way has really helped me
create an interesting video and it works really
well and it is all very relative.

3. As I have said previously they have used performance the whole way through
the video this is to promote the band they have done this by using medium
close ups to show the band playing the song and showing that they are having
fun. But this means little narrative and a lot of repetition.
I have developed the original video by not
using performance the whole way through
the video but I have used an element of
performance I did this by going to a concert
and taking some footage However I
developed and challenged the elements of
performance in the original video by
showing the crowd having a good time. I
also tried to edit this to the beat of the
music. I think the way that I have challenged
and developed the performance has worked
really well and looks really effective. It also
promotes the artist by showing that the fans
are having a good time. It puts a really good
tone to my video.

4. The original video is at the top and
mine is at the bottom we can see
that I have challenged the
conventions of the original video as
theirs is in colour and mine is in
black and white. I have done this
because I thought that it looked
really effective and worked well with
the footage that I created. I also
wanted to challenge conventions of
videos all together as most of them
are in colour so I wanted to
challenge this by making it black and
white. Overall I think this worked
really well and looked really effective
and I am really glad I decided to
challenge conventions.

5. They have used lots of close ups this could be because they want to
promote every single artist with in The clash and show that they are all
talented and equally important. They have also used close ups to really
focus on the element of performance.
We can also see that I have developed the conventions of
the original video as I have also used close ups such as
when my artist is lip syncing or on one of the girls but I
have mainly used long shots to establish the scenes as I
thought it was important that the locations got credit and
as the song is called London Calling it was important to
show that it was shot in London. When looking at the
shots usage I can see that I have challenged the shots used
in the original video as I have used more of a variety of
shots which have all had specific meaning.
