The different categories of communication are:
 Verbal Communication: This includes face-

communication.
 Non-Verbal Communication: This includes
body language, an gestures.
 Written Communication: This includes
letters, books, e-mails, magazines etc.
 Visualizations: This includes
graphs and charts, and other visualizations
to communicate messages.

3. Verbal communication
 It refers to Interpersonal communication
which involves explicit meaning of words, the
information or message conveyed
 Effective verbal communication will rely on a
number of factors along with some
interpersonal skills like non-verbal
communication and listening skills .
 Effective verbal communication can only
happen with Clarity of speech, focus,
politeness ,etiquette etc.

4. Non Verbal communication
 It refers to implicit messages, that are
expressed through non-verbal behaviours.
 These could be intentional or non intentional
 These include facial expressions, gestures
body language (kinesics), tone and pitch of
the voice, and the physical distance between
the communicators (proxemics).

5. Non verbal communication
 These non-verbal signals can add or
enhance the spoken (verbal) communication
with the help of adding more information.
 For example, a communicator may nod his
head when saying "Yes" to stress that he
agrees with the other person.
 Non verbal communication helps convey
information about the emotional state.

 Eye Contact
 Para-language
 Closeness or Personal Space (Proxemics)
 Facial Expressions
 Physiological Changes

7. Written communication
 Writing skills allow the communicator to send
the message with clarity .
 Written communication can cater to a large
set of audience.
 This could be a report, plan,CV etc
 Correct grammar, punctuation and spelling
are key in written communications.

8. Pictures, Graphs, Bar
diagrams
 A good graph or chart could communicate
many paragraphs of words.
 Graphs have two axes, the horizontal or x-
axis, and the vertical or y-axis which show
numbers.
 The numbers on the y-axis and the x- axis ,
start at 0 and move upwards horizontally or
vertically.

9. Types of charts
 The four major types of charts are line
graphs, bar graphs, Cartesian graphs and pie
charts.
 Bar graphs show bars which portray
numbers which are independent of each
other.
 Pie charts show the whole circle divided into
different parts.

 Line graphs show you how numbers have
changed over time or to show the trends of a
variable .
 Cartesian graphs have numbers on both
axes, and can show the changes in one
variable and its affect on the another.
