Quote of the Week
When I was 5 years old my
Mother always told me that
happiness was the key to life.
When I went to school they
asked me what I wanted to
be when I grew up. I wrote
down “happy”. They told me
I didn’t understand the as-signment,
I told them they
don’t understand life.

Kia Ora, Talofa and Welcome to Term 4.
Term Four has 9 (yes that’s right) 9 weeks - the end of this school year for us Friday, 12 Decem-ber
at 12:00 noon - please diary this date and time now. I am sure we are all going to feel the
same - in that these weeks will just fly by!! and Christmas will be upon us - as well as some sun-ny
weather :):):)
If you look down the left hand column - Diary These Dates - you will see we have a very full on
term - it starts this week with our Year 6’s having “Bike Wise” skills with Constable Marty on
Thursday and Friday of this week.
School Carpark - It is getting better in the afternoons - just remember - if we all use it properly,
no leaving your vehicles in the drop off zone and keep moving up the parks as the one in front
becomes vacant, then we will have a great flowing carpark. Thanks to the parents who are park-ing
across the road in the field - this makes a big difference to the number of cars flowing through
the entrance.
School Garden: We are going to be planting some summer vegetables over the next few weeks
and hopefully at the start of 2015 we will be able to sell some of our produce to help buy seeds
and plants. The idea is for it to become self-sustainable (it’s good to have a dream).
School Uniforms - watch out in the next newsletter for the Boards set of Guidelines for the intro-duction
of the School Uniform starting 2015 for Years 1-5.
EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM - TERM 4:
Year 6’s - are off to Camp Cromwell - doing all those exciting things, biking, canoeing, sailing.
Years 1 to 5: “Shipwrecks” is the theme and the plan is:
Wednesday, 29 October : inter-house cooperative game competition.
Thursday, 30 October : inter-house school trip to Greenpoint Walk to view some old wrecks and
then to the Bluff Museum to see some relics from boats.
Friday, 31 October - Shipwreck Art Morning with a Shipwreck shared lunch.
The cost:
Year 1-4’s $6.00 per student. The school has offset this cost by paying for the buses. We
would appreciate if you could pay this cost as soon as possible in Term 4. A reminder will come
out during the first week of school - cost covers: Museum Entry, Beach Education (28th Novem-ber)
and food for shared lunch.
Year 5’s: $10 per student. On the Thursday night - they will be having a sleepover at school
and will be having breakfast the next morning, going home after lunch on the Friday - cost co-vers:
the above, plus food for supper and breakfast.
Staff will also require parent help on all three days - but particularly on the trip to Bluff - a notice
will come out during next week asking for helpers - so please calendar these dates.
All in all a busy term ahead - don’t forget if you have any questions - come and see your child’s
teacher straight away - it is easier to solve a problem when it is simple and straight from the
source.

2. LEAVING TISBURY SCHOOL AT THE END
OF THIS YEAR: It is that time of year again,
when ask if you would please advise us if
your child is leaving at the end of 2014. We
appreciate circumstances change for families
and children move schools - however, to help
with our Out of Zone Waiting List - we need
to know so we can establish if there are any
places for students across the school. Of
course we know about our Year 6 Students
so they are already in the equation. Please
write a note in students communication book
or contact the office or myself. We really ap-preciate
an early indication as we do have
families on the waiting list. Many thanks
Andrea:):):)

Storyteller Zeebong last term.
It is very important to explain why your child is
absent from school: There are two main ways staff
can record an absence: 1) justified - due to ill-ness,
a medical appointment, or a breavement in
the family and 2) unjustified - is everything else.
When we are not advised that it is due to illness -
we mark the student as unjustified and when this
percentage gets below 80% we are legally obliged
to advise the Ministry of Education’s Attendance
Service. Please help us help you.
Attendance Rates:
The percentage of unjustified absence recording
has dropped from 22% in August to 7% in Septem-ber
: this is fantastic. School attendance rate for
September: 82% on average.
Does anyone have any
willow sticks? We would
like about 12 for EOTC
week to wrap damper
around.
Big thankyou to Ben
and Verity McLean
for donating Elm tree
to the school. It is
down the end of the
confidence course.

10 Basic Principles of Good
parenting, there is a science
to raising children:
1. What you do Matters: Tell
yourself that every day. How
you treat and respond to
your child should come from
a knowledgeable, deliberate
sense of what you want to
accomplish. Always ask
yourself: What effect will my
decision have on my child?
