Ki Ora and welcome to Week 5 – Term 2, half way through the term and half way through
the school year!!!
CROSS COUNTRY: Good luck to everyone at tomorrows cross country at Fortrose. A re-
minder that the bus will be returning to school in time for the normal end of school bus
run. A reminder: students will need a change of footware (old running shoes and shoes to
change into – even spare clothing : the course will be wet (consequently muddy). Also stu-
dents need to have enough food – they are generally hungry after they have run.
DATES TO DIARY: CHECK OUT THE LEFT HAND COLUMN OF THE NEWSLETTER – details of
the ―Top Events‖:
20 June Martin Curtis – sharing traditional folk songs with the students – 1:30 in the
school’s Library – if you are passing please call in and join us.
28 June – Southland Cross Country – our School Zone is in charge of organizing this for
2013. Tisbury School have been asked to provide four marshalls for around the course.
Can you please advise if you can help us on this day – write a note in your child’s commu-
nication book.
SCHOOL’S ASSEMBLY: Fridays at 11:45am – Why is it at this time? Two reasons; 1) Sport
Southland – at the commencement of 2012 we were able to get Tisbury School included in
the Invercargill Sport Southland Programme which provides coaching in specific sporting
codes across the school, unfortunately Friday afternoons appears to be one of the time
slots for us. As a result, some students and classes would miss out on assembly – the
staff felt this was unfair as assembly is important in coming together and celebrating our
wonderful school.
2) Friday Fun – at the end of assembly the children who are in the orange or green of the
classroom behaviour management chart receive Friday Fun – this is an additional 10/15
minutes play before lunch which the children really enjoy. This term, to date, 95-98% of
the school is receiving Friday Fun.
Therefore, if you are passing and can call in to the assembly you are very welcome.
COMPLIMENTS RECEIVED: It is so nice to give feedback to the community about the com-
pliments we receive on your children’s behaviour – during last week we had two visitors to
the school – both complimenting on the great listening, participation and manners that
Tisbury School Students display. Often it is the negative that we hear about so it is really
great to pass on the positive.
LIFE EDUCATION TRUCK: It was wonderful to see some of the children taking their parents
into the Life Education Truck to meet Harold last week – this is a great service and sup-
ports the school’s health education programme.
TIMELY REMINDER: During the course of the year I do remind parents that the school has
a complaints procedure – copy in the back of your child’s communication book. However,
before it gets to this point please ensure that you are communicating with the classroom
teacher and my self on an-ongoing basis – if it is that serious communicate daily, weekly –
we want to work with you over problems and communication is the best way for this to hap-
pen.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT – as part of the on-going self-reflection by staff, and different
ways of looking at behaviour management, we have been building,
with students, their growing responsibility in ―Making Awesome Choices‖. The talk that we
are using is centered around ―working above the line‖ . Around the school and in each
class you will see the chart that explains this – Ask your child what it means. In addition
classrooms are reviewing/revisiting the behaviour treaty/contract : the rules they are to
work by – again ask your child about these.
Have a great and safe two weeks

Southern Zone Cross Country Tomorrow
A big thank you to Russell Bell for
allowing the students to practice
their cross country running on his
property the last couple of weeks.
Remember all students must wear
the Tisbury School sports top for
tomorrow. If you require one come
to the office. Also if you have an old
towel it might be worthwhile putting
in to your childs
bag as it will be
typical cross
country
conditions.
We have received $658.00 from
Community Trust of Southland
from the Principals Discretionary
Fund. A big thank you to them for
this. The money is used to assist
students to attend school camps,
attend class trips etc that they
would otherwise be unable to be-
cause of financial hardship.
Hockey Southland have been taking hockey sessions with the children. Mrs Maheno showing the
students how it is done! Well done everyone.
Tisbury School Choir 2013
We are going to be part of Invercargill
Sing Out Choir. Performance will be in
September. We will be asking students
to show their interest next week starting
with Year 4-6 children. A commitment
of practices at lunchtime is required.
Look forward to singing aloud
soon.
Community
Consultation Survey (re
Charter) Due Monday 10
June.
Spare Clothes: Because of the time of year students are getting dirty wet clothes when they
play outside so it might be a good idea to pop an extra set of clothes in their school bags so they
have something dry to change into.
Fairlayne Pennicott and Jan-Marie Janerol with
their sports trophies. Well Done girls.
