with Apple and your design team is
ready to go. All you need is a killer app!
Make sure you research the market that
your app will eventually sit in.
We appreciate that it may not be easy,
but your app needs to be as original and
unique as possible.

Store, 6 million iOS Developers and 50
billion downloads since the App Store
was launched in July 2008.
Get a shortlist of apps that have features
you like and keep them in mind - look for
inspiration! Here’s a great site to help...

Just like any online content, keywords
are extremely important for your app.
The majority of App Store customers
find apps by searching for them.

Remember that you don’t need to
include your app name as a keyword.

Pull together a list of keywords that
describe your app - you only have 100
characters though so make sure they’re
the best ones possible!

It is important to keep your app content
appropriate and as inoffensive as you
can.

Don’t use profanities, sexual content or
unsavory images unless it is 100%
necessary.

It is really important to keep your app
true to it’s original concept. However,
you need to make sure that you don’t
infringe any copyrights and keep your
images and audio original.

The App Store will select a suitable age
rating for your app but you will need to
rate the severity of different attributes
(language, violence etc). Be honest and
over critical - something you think is fine
may well offend someone else.

#4 design an awesome icon
Your icon is like the front page of your
app, it’s the first thing a customer will
see. Make sure it looks awesome
and is as creative/descriptive as
possible.

Test your icon designs on your devices your design mock up in Photoshop will
look a lot different on the actual device
you are designing it for.

extremely important step before you
submit to the App Store.
You should test your app in a variety of
different ways; such as iOS simulator
or through Apple’s SDK kit, however
this doesn’t necessarily test all threads
that run on various devices.

can, try to hold of on including
every single feature as they are
easier to add in later on.

way to maintain engagement with
your apps and help chart ratings.
Plan out a timeline of updates and

It may seem obvious, but the App
Review guidelines are essentially a list of
reasons why your app may be rejected.
Make sure you read the guidelines
through and stick to them! You can find
them here.
Follow every rule, even if it seems a bit
silly - cutting corners with the guidelines
will be detrimental to your app’s
approval.

When it comes to final submission, you
need to have all of the right details and
information. All of this will be displayed
on your page in the App Store.

#9 be patient, don’t jump the gun
It may take some time for your app to
be reviewed and for the verdict to be
delivered. Apple state that an app will
not take longer than 14 days to be
approved, but it all depends on the
content.
We use this website to keep an eye on
the average app review times for both
mobile and mac apps. It’s constantly
updated and gives you some really
useful stats.

Another great tip is to not make your
app live as soon as it’s available. The
App Store marketing team need time to
find apps to promote - they start by
looking for approved apps that aren’t
live. If you give them some time, you will
benefit from a bit of free promotion!
Give it 3 or 4 weeks before you make it
public.

Yes, I know you’ve done all of the
testing, jumped through all the hoops.
You’ve used the app out in the rain at
3am in your pants and been through
every other possible scenario on every
device. But you never know...
Have a page ready with FAQs - be
really critical of your app and provide
the simplest answers.

Let people know about your shiny new
app! Spread the word and do as much
as you can to get eyes on it.
Promote it through your online channels
- write a blog post about the process,
share it on Twitter and Facebook. You
can also submit it to other mobile and
tech bloggers to gain additional
coverage.

Ask people to download, rate and review
your app!
Potential customers like to read reviews
and look at ratings before downloading,
so encourage users to write reviews.

Hopefully by now your app is live and
download figures have hit the roof!
Don’t forget to track progress and
monitor how your app is doing, make
sure you know the stats and pull
together a report.

Apple iTunes Connect gives you all the
info you need, so make sure you sign in
periodically and keep an eye on
everything.

app is working well.
