CAREER SUMMARY:
Human resource professional with wholistic HR knowledge and experience blended with an operational background. An HR
generalist with strategic and versatile qualities that can align with big picture objectives. An entrepreneurial individual with
high attention to detail. A good listener with patience for internal and external customers. Results oriented team member.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY:
BLAIN SUPPLY, INC.—JANESVILLE, WI JANUARY-2006-November-2015
A private $1 billion regional retail organization with 4,200 associates, including 3 million square feet of distribution center,
brick and mortar retail stores and E-commerce in WI, IL and IA.
Chief Human Resources Officer/Vice President Reports to: Chairman of the Board/ CEO
My direct reports included: Director of Benefits and Wellness, with two benefit specialists; Performance and Development
Manager; Associate Relations Manager; Human Resources Manager; Training Manager supported with three trainers; (2)
Recruiters; and an Ad Min.
During my tenure with Blain Supply, INC.:
• Restructured a fractured department of six with seven open HR slots. The department was poorly functioning
lacking the appreciation of the existing talent that was in place, thus unable to add strategic value to the company. I
set about to rebuild the team that previously had little support or faith in my predecessor’s leadership, and little
understanding of their talents or capacity to learn and grow. Developed and implemented an associate promotion
program to identify promising associates who could and did make contributions to the organization goals.
• Through articulating and demonstrating a clear vision of what the HR department needed to be in order to support
the goals and objectives of the company, the Board of Directors (BOD) asked me to grow the department due to
demonstrated results of lower turnover (76% down to 54%), reduced benefit administration costs by eliminating 3rd
party interfaces and performed these functions in-house (one example is Wage Works, Inc., saving $104,000 per
year), created and implemented 'on demand' training for store operations resulting in uniform training, tracking and
labor reduction at store level, at the same time increasing company and governmental legislated compliance.
• Exercised total HR accountability for Associate Relations; Benefits; Training; Recruitment and Retention. This
includes management development programs to create career paths to meet demands of the company growth plan.
• Streamlined the hiring process by researching and gaining approval for adding 'onboarding' and 'recruitment'
platforms to our HRIS, which allows applicants to apply from any internet accessible device and created the
opportunity to take the HR department virtually paperless. This resulted in substantially reduced labor and
processing costs. Saving approximately $95,000/year.
• Have had success with maintaining company-wide non-union status through created and developed policies,
practices and procedures while simultaneously promoting a fair and open work environment utilizing an open door
policy
• Created and implemented a management and mid-level succession planning program with periodic updates to BOD.
• Planned and developed a world class wellness program that led to the WELCOA recognition of gold level on the first
attempt to be recognized. Accomplished by collaborating with Beneco, our benefits broker. {There are only 500
companies in the USA that have achieved this status.}
• Appointed privacy officer
