In recent months the news has flooded us with stories of bullying and some disastrous consequences that have ensued. The counselors of Catlin Gabel have been hard at work since this last summer to create a conceptual framework for how we deal with dominating behavior. On October 27th we had the pleasure of hosting a presentation about this framework. In the presentation we spoke about the characteristics of anti-bullying programs that work, the latest research on the topic, the psychology of the bully/victim dynamic and skills we will be teaching to students for handling difficult situations.

People with Narcissistic Personality Disorders have an inflated sense of their own importance, a strong sense of entitlement, a deep need for admiration, yet a lack of empathy for others. They use verbal abuse for power and control. Verbal Abuse is often dismissed as insignificant when compared to physical abuse. BUT, the long-term effect of verbal abuse is that you can lose your sense of 'self'. You no longer know who you are. It feels like you've lost your soul.

Essay Three: Research Every field has its problems whether these problems exist in academia or in the professional world. These problems can exist because of a difference in academic philosophy or theory. Furthermore, these problems can be a common occurrence in your industry. With this in mind, your research essay is going to focus on a problem within your discipline. Once you find a relevant issue in your discipline, you must convince your audience that this situation is a problem. Then, outline a proposal to fix that problem, explaining why your proposal is a reasonable solution to this problem. Concepts to consider: In order to begin your proposal, it is important to consider the rhetorical situation that has generated this question or problem. What does this situation say about the problem and how your solution might be beneficial? Who is involved in the problem and solution, and what are their concerns? Considering these elements of the situation will help convince the audience to support the task you’re proposing or even uptake the task you’re proposing. Also, consider whether or not your audience agrees that your topic is a problem. If they do not agree, you might have to spend more time explaining why the topic is a problem that needs to be addressed; on the other hand, if they already are asking the same questions surrounding your problem, you might decide to spend more time outlining the proposal for your readers. Stipulations: · Each essay MUST have a clear, identifiable THESIS STATEMENT. · Use at least six outside sources to support your points. Four of your sources have to be peer-reviewed sources. · Each essay must be 2100-3000 words, 12 point font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, and in the format of your discipline (APA or MLA). The works cited/reference does not count toward the word count. Any paper not meeting the word count will lose significant points. Furthermore, make sure that your essay is in a .docx file format. · Each essay must have an academic essay title. Examples of academic titles: “Expanding the Concept of Translational Research: Making a Place for Environmental Health Sciences”; “Restoring Public Confidence in the Criminal Justice System: Policing Prosecutions When Prosecutors Prosecute Police.” Please make the most of it—do not just call this essay “Research Essay” or “Essay 3.” Due Dates Rough Draft (1700 words+. McDonald 6 Name: Sonja McDonald Course Name: ENG 111-2902 Institution: Fayetteville Technical Community College Instructor: Professor Stephanie High Date: 17 July 2019 Child Abuse Introduction This research paper will involve the reviewing of the issue of child abuse. Child abuse is an issues that has been happening in the society since the ancient times. However, in the modern world, the categorization and the definition of child abuse has changed. Definition of child abuse will involve the inclusion of the different forms of the abuse, common modes of child abuse and the interventions that can be used for addressing of the issues of child abuse. There are different reasons as to why the research study about child abuse is important in the current world, due to the fact that the gathering of data and information about child abuse will help in the devising of strategies and ways of addressing this crisis. According to reports by different organizations such as World Health Organization(WHO), most of the cases of child abuse can be avoided or even treated. Forms of child abuse such as physical, sexual, neglect and even emotional or psychological abuse can be prevented through understanding them. Rationale for the selection of the topic of child abuse as a research paper is to pass information to the people about the adverse effects associated with child abuse, interventions which can be used for addressing the issue of child abuse and the possible reasons for the increase in the cases of child abuse in the modern world. Consequently, researching on this topic of child abuse helps in the minimization of cots that would have been incurred fostering care, counselling in the family as well medical care. Rationally, most people still have the mentality and perception that child abuse is characterized by the old definitions of working in farms and factories as well as plantations. However, in the current world, child abuse has been revolutionized as well. Issues of sexual abuse and exploitation, such as trafficking, rape and commercial sex are emerging issues in child abuse. Adverse effects of child abuse are normally evident due to the fact that some aspects of child abuse such as emotional hardly heal (Jud, Andreas, Jörg M. Fegert, and David Finkelhor, 17). Due to the fact that issues of child abuse have been ignored in the society, analysis and research on this issue will help in the addressing and handling of this issue. Background Different definitions and forms of child abuse have been suggested by both scholars and researchers. Basically, child abuse or even child maltreatment involves the previously identified forms, that is sexual, emotional, neglect and physical. Most of the countries have been sensitizing on the issue of child abuse, with these four notable forms of child abuse having penalties and custody depending on the seriousness of the case. Different perceptions and ideas have been presented with regard to corporal punishmen.

Running head: BULLYING BULLYING Bullying Bullying literature review Name Course Tutor Date Introduction Bullying is a phenomenon that all individuals are familiar with either directly or indirectly through observing another person perpetrate or become the victim of bullying. Despite the near unanimous opinion that bullying is bad, schools and workplaces fail to stop the practice. Resent suicide deaths caused by bullying have brought bullying to the forefront of public discussion, despite this, the practice persists, and thousands of schoolchildren suffer in silence (Ortega, Mora‐Merchán, & Guarini, 2012). The use of force to intimidate and dominate others not only takes place in school hallways but also in workplaces. A significant number of adults polled in surveys revealed that they experienced some form of bullying (Woodrow & Guest, 2014). This literature review delves deeper into the subject of bullying with the aim understanding the key motivations of bullies, the impact of bullying on victims and possible solutions to the practice. Literature review Bradshaw, & Sawyer. (2007). Bullying and peer victimization at school: Perceptual differences between students and school staff. School Psychology Review, 361. The first peer reviewed article that I assessed to help me understand bullying in schools comes from the Journal of School and Psychology review. The tone of the Journal article suggests that the authors intended it for an audience comprising of individuals in the education sector. In writing the article, the authors set out to understand victimization of students due to bullying and the difference in perception of students and teachers. The authors note that even though their study focused on elementary schools, the lessons apply in numerous environments where many people work together in close proximity (Bradshaw & Sawyer, 2007). In their quest to understand bullying, the authors observed that one of the reasons many schools fail to adopt appropriate measures to deal with bullying is that the staff’s perception of bullying is different from that of the students. To students, bullying is a detestable activity that has serious psychological implication; however, most staff brush off bullying as innocent jostling between students. The authors note the necessity of school staff to take bullying seriously to prevent more deaths and incidences of depression (Bradshaw & Sawyer, 2007). Flaspohler, Elfstrom, Vanderzee, & Birchmeier. (2009). Stand by me: The effects of peer and teacher support in mitigating the impact of bullying on quality of life. Psychology in the Schools, 636-649. The second peer reviewed paper that helped me better understand the issue of bullying in schools is from the Journal of psychology in schools. The authors of the peer-reviewed journal focused their research on the impact of teacher and peer intervention in reducing instances of bullying in schools. The authors intended the article towards ...

INTERVENTION PLAN FOR AGGRESSIVENESS DUE TO VIOLENT VIDEO GAMING. The Intervention plan this paper is by Jaimee Dugger titled “What are the effects of playing violent video games on aggressive behaviors in young adults?” Where he reveals that video games are produced and marketed to target children and youths. According to him, the videos come in different forms from cartoon games, football games, and violent and non-violent games. Non-violent games help improve social skills and reduce stress. They also improve sharpness and memory in children. However, negative attention has been towards violent video games, which have adverse negative effects. These video games include American forces, doom, the grand theft auto and death motto. The research presentation motivated me to attribute violent video games to the aggressive behaviors from their users depending on their personalities. This is because they make gamers, the target audience, to confuse between reality and digital fantasy in these games. The research presentation shows that effects of these games towards aggression depend on cognition, arousal and affect, which are contributed by frustration. Cognitive information processing model helps to determine how social environment surrounding someone can affect the way they react and interact. Moreover, past experiences also affect the individual’s current behaviors. Violent video games cause decrease in cardiac coherence, which is enhanced by high stress levels caused by noise in the violent video games as opposed to non-violent ones. Cardiac coherence is a condition used to determine balance in the nervous system and coordination between breathing and heart rate. A change in the part of brain that deals with cognitive function was discovered in individuals after a period of playing violent video games. Long term effects of these games develop due to the fact that human beings learn from infancy how to respond to situations according to obtained knowledge. Users of these games will tend to respond to situations using the aggression used in these violent video games without noticing the difference between reality and fantasy in these games. According to McDonnell (2010), an intervention plan is necessary for individuals that exhibit aggressive behavior a result of violent video gaming, it should involve activities such as; advising people in the surrounding to avoid any verbal engagement with these individuals or touch them. During this time, non-verbal signs and cues should be used to communicate with these individuals. In addition, they should be allowed to sit in silent rooms away from others and mostly should be near an exit (McDonnell, 2010). The research presentation explores various specific techniques, as provision of small group instructions is also necessary. These instructions will help to monitor the affected individuals. Discussed procedures on how to execute their plan o.

IMPACTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON CHILDREN 5 Impacts of Domestic Violence on Children Name of the Student Instructor Institution Course Date Abstract The focus of the research will be oneffects of domestic violence on children with particular attention on those children brought up by intimate partners. Exposing children to domestic violence affects children psychologically, physically and emotionally. Literature suggests that domestic violence has lasting effects on children. This research will focus on children who have reached the school-going age from five years to thirteen years. Introduction Purpose of the Study The study is aimed at researching and finding out the effects of domestic violence on children. Scope of the Study This study will focus on domestic violence in families from an intimate partner and how the children are affected by either being victims or witnesses. The rationale of the Study When children are exposed to domestic violence, their mental health is negatively affected. These are aspects that affect their ability to feel empathy and make them experience social discomfort. To understand the children's emotions, forensic psychologists use their expertise to assess and identify the sources of the problem. The hypothesis of the Question H1:Domestic violence affects the physical and emotional well-being of children H2: Forensic psychologists provide wholesome support to children who experience or witness domestic violence Key Concepts Domestic violence: the abuse of power occurs when a partner physically or psychologically abuses or dominates the other. Intimate partner violence: this is sexual, physical, or psychological abuse Child abuse: this is emotional or physical harm by a caregiver to the child. Forensic Psychologist: an expert in forensics and psychology. Literature Review Children living in an abusive home are more likely to experience social alienation. They are mentally affected and hence find it difficult to relate with others. According to Lloyd, this is an effect that affects their performance in school due to lack of concentration (2018). These children are also anxious because they can relate to the events taking place at home. Therefore, they perform poorly because of anxiety and fear that is directed towards adults, including teachers. Maltreatment of the children affects them over a long time leading to emotional and psychological effects. The physiological changes are due to the effects on the child's brain. This leads to the changes that cause emotional stress and depression. According to Mallett and Schall, domestic violence against children is classified as criminal acts under the law (2019). The impacts they have can affect the future and mental stability of the child. Although domestic violence is known to cause negative impacts on children, there are more cases not being reported. This is primarily due to the intimidation from the perpetrator (Sullivan, 2018). The child ...

Causal relationships between risk estimates and alcohol consumption must be made cautiously as most studies have used a cross-sectional methodology, poor definitions of alcohol use, and inadequate assessments of risk perceptions. Despite a lack of evidence, the concept of adolescent “invulnerability” remains pervasive in both scientific and lay circles, is used to explain adolescents' decisions to engage in a potentially harmful behavior and is incorporated into many intervention programs (Fell, et al., 2015). Longitudinal, prospective studies are needed to understand fully the extent to which perceptions of low risk predict and motivate alcohol use. I. Perceptions of Alcohol-Related Benefits: An emphasis on perceived risk alone may be inadequate to predict or change behavior because a risk is only part of the behavioral decision-making equation. What is missing knows the extent to which adolescents perceive benefits of risky behaviors. The decision literature has argued that individuals should consider both the risks and benefits when making decisions. In addition, alcohol expectancy researchers have found that perceived benefits, in addition to perceived risks, are significant predictors of drinking behavior. More recently, Goldberg and colleagues (2002) concluded that, regardless of age, participants with more drinking experience perceived benefits to be more likely to occur, and risks less likely (Grube & Voas, 2014). Indeed, adolescents' reasons for drinking alcohol often include an acknowledgment or identification of alcohol-related benefits, such as alcohol being used in social interactions to help them to reduce inhibitions, feel more relaxed reduce tension, foster courage, and reduce worry. Attachment theories are based on the view that human beings have an intrinsic and universal desire to be accepted by others. Parent attachment is broadly conceptualized as the overall level of parental responsiveness toward the offspring. The youth’s internalization of the security of attachment is expected to be imprinted heuristically through interaction with the caregiver, in time becoming relatively resistant to change, showing enduring effects across the lifespan (Miller, et al., 2010). Through the formation of secure bonds to parents, children acquire a robust internal working model of themselves and others. Youth with secure attachment to parents develop the skills necessary to regulate their Attachment emotional theories are based on the view that human beings have an intrinsic and universal desire to be accepted by others. Parent attachment is broadly conceptualized as the overall level of parental responsiveness toward the offspring (Foster, et al., 2013). Running head: CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR 1 CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR 8 How to Respond to Criminal Behavior among the Youth Student’s Name Institution Introduction Criminal behavior has been a major area of focus to most psychologists. This is especially due to the age old debate between nature and being well nurtured. It is the main responsibility of most parents to know the genetic makeup of their children, for the sake of responsible parenting and also, in order to determine the outcome of their behaviors and norms they chose to embrace. Research has been conducted regarding this debate for quite a while, and has proven that both genes and the general environment have a big role to play when it comes to the criminality of an individual(Levine, 2003). The behaviors adopted by children and the youth should be put into consideration, considering that this is what has an impact on the safety of the society and the nation at large. Poor upbringing for the youth hasa great role to play especially in determining the kind of negative behaviors they chose to embrace later in their lives. This paper shows the findings in research on aspects of criminal justice and at the same time, a presentation of the varying opinions on how to respond to criminal behavior among the youth. Crime during the transition to adulthood Transition from childhood to adulthood is a complexperiod especially for the youth. In most cases, it becomes difficult for the youth to engage in various systems and they tend to be more conscious of their aging. Whereas most of the youth gradually transform from childhood to adult hood, this is the major stage in life which should be taken more seriously and in most cases, be prioritized in the society (Florez, 2008). Families should give the youth a chance to express their views on different aspects. Through survey data, it was identified that more than 732 youth are transitioning from out of home care to adulthood across for major states. Based on research aspects, offences committed are attributed to the youth in various countries. Foster youth, just like their peers, tend to engage in less crime over a period of time. Those who lack mentorship are more exposed to criminal elements and tend to participate more in criminal behavior (Ashford, 2009). However, foster youth also remain more prone to arrest just like their peers. The transition from childhood to adulthood should be well handled to ensure that children are raised in lawful environments and at the same time, are provided with basic resources and counseling to help them in the future.
