I fell in love with my red velvet trousers the first
time I saw them. They were a size 8, as I am
usually a size 10, I never thought they would fit
me. But I was determined to try, so I held my
stomach in while the shop assistant tried to pull up
the zip. They were definitely a size too small – in
fact they were the tightest trousers I had ever
worn – but the shop assistant said they looked
great so I bought them. Looking back on it now I
think I had lost all sense of reality.

When I took them home my mum and my sisters
thought they were awful. They said they were far
too tight and hated the disgusting orange-red
colour. I began to think I might have made a
fashion mistake, but I had bought the trousers so I
was determined to wear them. I only wore them
once, and that ended up costing me a lot, not only
financially but also because of my embarrassment.

I wore them to go shopping with my mother in
Manchester, and as I walked around Kendals
department store I felt as if I was the slimmest
person alive. After looking round the store for half
an hour we went into the café and Mum told me to
get a table while she got some coffees. I found an
empty table but as I was sitting down I heard
something rip and when I felt behind me, I
realized that they had completely split apart.

I felt myself go red as other shoppers had heard
the noise and were looking at me.
My mother was queuing for the coffees, so I tried
to get her attention. When she saw what had
happened to my trousers she couldn’t stop
laughing. She helped me out of the café, walking
directly behind me while trying to hold my trousers
together. We went straight to the fashion
department where she bought me a new pair of
trousers, this time size 10.

Not stated.

не бывает;
информацию);
информацию);
1) вместо False – Not stated (события не могут сосуществовать);
True vs. Not stated 2
Not stated 2,
True.

Not stated 2:
12 B1
B. The artist was sure that painting attracted
many young people.
Artist: Yeah I can't imagine life without painting. But
you're right, my main passion at the moment is
getting through to kids. A few months ago I was doing
a TV show. I asked kids to write in and tell me how
many of them spent time at home painting.
Interviewer: Did you get many replies?
Artist: I was amazed at the response but do you
know, I got more than 4000 and from kids all over the
world. They wrote and told me what they paint,
whether they use oils, watercolour, crayons or even
make their own special paint mixtures!
Not stated.

Not stated 2:
10 G3
G. Tim tried different kinds of pizza in Italy.
Tim: Yes, that's a shot of a tasty
pizza served by a beautiful Italian
girl! You know, Italians are famous for
their food and wine. So we didn't miss
a chance to try traditional dishes.
True.

Not stated 2:
11 E1
E. Mr Preston believes that Longlane is the
better school as it has facilities for music.
Mrs Didcott: That sounds fine. You mentioned
something about the music facilities which really
interest me, you see, Sheila plays the piano, and I
would want to arrange for her to take lessons.
Mr Preston: That wouldn't be a problem at all,
Mrs Didcott. Our music facilities are fantastic, and
we have several piano teachers, depending on the
style. What sort of music does your daughter play?
Not stated.

3 F3
F. Sometimes it's better to keep silence.
Think about everyday life. What would it really be
like, if we had to tell the absolute truth every time?
What would that do to courtship, family life and
advertising? Could we still tell children about Father
Christmas? If your partner cooked an awful dinner,
would it really be best to actually say that it was
awful? Deception is a natural part of life. We need to
get other people to do things all the time, and so we
naturally manipulate their thoughts and feelings by
not telling the truth or by telling only part of the
truth. The question is, when does not telling the
whole truth become a lie?
True.
False vs. Not stated 1
Not stated 1,
Not stated.

Headmaster: Oh, only 350. Most people in the
area send their children to Teesdale, because it's
bigger and it's more widely known. To be honest, it
does have more facilities, but I think children really
get a chance to show what they're good at in a
smaller school, and we 've got the time to
encourage and help them.
D. More children go to Teesdale as it has music
classes.

Mrs Didcott: Well... Sheila's really into playing
jazz. But I want her to learn some classical as well.
G. Mrs Didcott's daughter wants to learn to
play classical music.

Ann: So, anyway, the guards gave the kids some
lemonade and their mum and dad a glass of
brandy to calm them down, and then they set off
home but when they were about halfway back,
they saw an accident had happened on the
motorway. There were two police cars there, and,
of course, my friend stopped, as he's a doctor, to

Ann: Well in fact no, nobody had been injured but
when the police saw my friend's car they were a bit
surprised and asked him what had happened to it, so
he told them all about the elephant. But the policeman
didn't believe it and gave my friend the breath test for
alcohol. And, of course, he'd had that huge glass of
brandy at the safari park, so he came out positive. Now
he's going to get a big fine and he's probably going to
lose his driving licence for a year.

Moving further east, another scorcher is forecast
for Greece today and for the remainder of the
week, but delicious cool breezes will make life
more than comfortable. With balmy evenings also
expected, Greece is most definitely the place to
be. So if, like me, you have had enough of grey
skies and slush in your Wellington boots, you
know where to go.

1 12 2 2 23 these trousers.
I fell in love with my red velvet trousers the first time I saw them. They were a size 8, as I am usually a size 10, I never thought they would fit me. But I was determined to try, so I held my stomach in while the shop assistant tried to pull up the zip. They were definitely a size too small – in fact they were the tightest trousers I had ever worn – but the shop assistant said they looked great so I bought them. Looking back on it now I think I had lost all sense of reality. 2 2/3 3/2
When I took them home my mum and my sisters thought they were awful. They said they were far too tight and hated the disgusting orange-red colour. I began to think I might have made a fashion mistake, but I had bought the trousers so I was determined to wear them. I only wore them once, and that ended up costing me a lot, not only financially but also because of my embarrassment. 1 1
I wore them to go shopping with my mother in Manchester, and as I walked around Kendals department store I felt as if I was the slimmest person alive. After looking round the store for half an hour we went into the café and Mum told me to get a table while she got some coffees. I found an empty table but as I was sitting down I heard something rip and when I felt behind me, I realized that they had completely split apart. 3/2 these trousers.
I felt myself go red as other shoppers had heard the noise and were looking at me. My mother was queuing for the coffees, so I tried to get her attention. When she saw what had happened to my trousers she couldn’t stop laughing. She helped me out of the café, walking directly behind me while trying to hold my trousers together. We went straight to the fashion department where she bought me a new pair of trousers, this time size 10. 1/2

I. «Поисковый» этап

1 12 B1 B. The artist was sure that painting attracted many young people. Artist: Yeah I can't imagine life without painting. But you're right, my main passion at the moment is getting through to kids. A few months ago I was doing a TV show. I asked kids to write in and tell me how many of them spent time at home painting. Interviewer: Did you get many replies? Artist: I was amazed at the response but do you know, I got more than 4000 and from kids all over the world. They wrote and told me what they paint, whether they use oils, watercolour, crayons or even make their own special paint mixtures! Not stated.
2 10 G3 G. Tim tried different kinds of pizza in Italy. Tim: Yes, that's a shot of a tasty pizza served by a beautiful Italian girl! You know, Italians are famous for their food and wine. So we didn't miss a chance to try traditional dishes.
3 11 E1 E. Mr Preston believes that Longlane is the better school as it has facilities for music. Mrs Didcott: That sounds fine. You mentioned something about the music facilities which really interest me, you see, Sheila plays the piano, and I would want to arrange for her to take lessons. Mr Preston: That wouldn't be a problem at all, Mrs Didcott. Our music facilities are fantastic, and we have several piano teachers, depending on the style. What sort of music does your daughter play? Not stated.
4 3 F3 F. Sometimes it's better to keep silence. Think about everyday life. What would it really be like, if we had to tell the absolute truth every time? What would that do to courtship, family life and advertising? Could we still tell children about Father Christmas? If your partner cooked an awful dinner, would it really be best to actually say that it was awful? Deception is a natural part of life. We need to get other people to do things all the time, and so we naturally manipulate their thoughts and feelings by not telling the truth or by telling only part of the truth. The question is, when does not telling the whole truth become a lie?
Not stated.
1 11 D3 Headmaster: Oh, only 350. Most people in the area send their children to Teesdale, because it's bigger and it's more widely known. To be honest, it does have more facilities, but I think children really get a chance to show what they're good at in a smaller school, and we 've got the time to encourage and help them. D. More children go to Teesdale as it has music classes.
2 11 G2 Headmaster: That wouldn't be a problem at all, Mrs Didcott. Our music facilities are fantastic, and we have several piano teachers, depending on the style. What sort of music does your daughter play? Mrs Didcott: Well... Sheila's really into playing jazz. But I want her to learn some classical as well. G. Mrs Didcott's daughter wants to learn to play classical music.
3 10 F2 Alice: How was your Italian? Tim: My Italian wasn't very good. But many Italians speak English very well. I was really impressed! F. Tim was unable to communicate with Italians because his Italian wasn't very good.
4 7 F3 Ann: So, anyway, the guards gave the kids some lemonade and their mum and dad a glass of brandy to calm them down, and then they set off home but when they were about halfway back, they saw an accident had happened on the motorway. There were two police cars there, and, of course, my friend stopped, as he's a doctor, to see if he could help. F. The guards were very calm in this incident.
5 7 G2 Ann: Well in fact no, nobody had been injured but when the police saw my friend's car they were a bit surprised and asked him what had happened to it, so he told them all about the elephant. But the policeman didn't believe it and gave my friend the breath test for alcohol. And, of course, he'd had that huge glass of brandy at the safari park, so he came out positive. Now he's going to get a big fine and he's probably going to lose his driving licence for a year. G. Their friend expected the police actions.
6 8 G3 Moving further east, another scorcher is forecast for Greece today and for the remainder of the week, but delicious cool breezes will make life more than comfortable. With balmy evenings also expected, Greece is most definitely the place to be. So if, like me, you have had enough of grey skies and slush in your Wellington boots, you know where to go. G. Cool breezes will turn into a storm.
