OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this activity:
1) Students will be able to narrate important milestones in the history
of tea in Britain
2) Students will be able to describe different types of tea that the
British people use to drink.
3) Students will have enriched their knowledge with some facts/ words/
expressions about the British tea-drinking habits.
4) Students will be able to prepare the tea just like the Brits do.
CONCEPTS / INFORMATION:
The history of drinking tea in Britain.
The traditional way of making tea.
Britain's favourite teas…
Tea words and phrases…
Interesting facts about tea.
2. MATERIALS: Background information about tea culture, ppt presentation, teapot,
tea, milk, sugar etc.
STAGES OF THE LESSON
1) Introduce students to the topic by asking what their favorite drink is and
how many of them drink tea. Explain that over half of the world’s
population drinks tea. The British people drink lots of tea. Also in China,
Japan and India, people drink lots of tea. Qs. Do Romanian people drink
tea rather than coffee?
2) Introduce students to the British tea culture by showing them a ppt
presentation. Ss participate actively by answering T’s questions or by
asking themselves some questions.
3) T shows them a video about ‘how to make an English tea’. Ss listen
carefully. After that, Ss and the T prepare the tea and serve it (with or
without milk) in the British way.
4) Ss and the T discuss their impressions about the lesson while they are
serving their cup of tea.
