License Entitlement Migration for IBM Passport Advantage Customers
Customers will be automatically migrated to the new Informix replacement license entitlements
     on May 25, 2010
In the interim, until their next S&S renewal is completed, Passport Advantage will display both
the old and replacement Informix license entitlements
Beginning on May 25, 2010, renewal quotes will be based on the new replacement part
     numbers.
After the next S&S renewal is completed, only the new replacement entitlements will be
     displayed
We prepared a customer letter explaining the entitlement migration and what to expect

Passport Advantage Software Is Licensed In Primarily

PVU basic concepts
Cores have a wide variety of performance characteristics
         – For a given workload, would need more slow cores than faster cores
         – But regardless of the core type, the value is the same to the customer

In a perfect world, middleware price for any workload would be the same
           on all core technologies

IBM PVUs provide for two approaches
        Full capacity licensing
          – Customers acquire licenses for all the physical processor cores
          – Standard licensing approach in Passport Advantage

        Sub-capacity (Virtualization Capacity) licensing
          – Customers acquire licenses for the lower of Virtualization Capacity or Full Capacity
of the server, or group of servers
              • Virtualization Capacity is the sum of the virtual core capacity available to a
                product
          – Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules differ by Virtualization Technology,

FUSSSI – Scenario 1

Multiple Users Sharing the Same Device

Multiple users may share the same end user device.

8 floating user Informix on a
        sessions from single server with
        the client device. one instance.

If an individual end user establishes multiple connections, each one is counted as a separate floating user, even if they
share a common physical pathway. From the day Licensee begins using the Program, the highest number of
connections ever established at any time for each database instance created by an Install will be counted for purposes
of determining the required floating users. Licensee must acquire entitlements for the greatest number of logical
connections ever established at any time for all database instances created by each Install. See the example below

License Entitlement Migration for IBM Passport Advantage Customers Customers will be automatically migrated to the new Informix replacement license entitlements on May 25, 2010 In the interim, until their next S&S renewal is completed, Passport Advantage will display both the old and replacement Informix license entitlements Beginning on May 25, 2010, renewal quotes will be based on the new replacement part numbers. After the next S&S renewal is completed, only the new replacement entitlements will be displayed We prepared a customer letter explaining the entitlement migration and what to expect – The letter is available externally in http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss? uid=swg21431901 Not for distribution 10 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 11. Most Frequently Asked Questions Entitlements – I have parallel feature entitlements on Workgroup today, what happens when I upgrade? • Talk to your IBM rep, you should be eligible to have those grandfathered into your new entitlement – I have entitlements to Transaction Processing Gold Bundle. What happens to these? • Will need to manually unbundle, can choose to unbundle to new Edition • With S&S on new edition, eligible to receive Informix v11.x or later – Are all previous feature options now included in Ultimate ? • Everything except Storage Optimization/Compression, still a feature option – How do the new editions map to my existing entitlements? • Workgroup Growth, Enterprise Ultimate • These are automatic entitlements effective May 25, 2010 Renewals – I bought CAF on an earlier version, do I still have to pay renewal? • No, this feature is withdrawn – I bought CAF just before the announcement. Can I have my money back ? • IBM doesn’t “refund” software • But, talk to your sales rep, they may have some other options for you Not for distribution 11 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 12. Most Frequently Asked Questions Product Usage and Support – Can I deploy any number of Innovator-C instances in production? • Yes – When can I start using the capabilities with the new editions? • When you upgrade to 11.50xC7 or later – What is the “Install” metric? • A copy of Informix software that is installed on a server/computer or on a virtual server or logical partition – What is optional Elite level selective support? • Cross-platform software technical support—around the clock and around the world • Online technical support including enhanced self-help and search capabilities • Voice support for new deployments, migration, and code-related questions • Fast problem resolution by phone for all 'Severity 1' situations—24 hours a day, seven days a week—you decide which issues to classify as 'Severity 1' • Special Builds delivered on the latest release and one release lower only • http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21431136 – Who do I contact for questions or is there an alias ? • askIFMX@us.ibm.com Not for distribution 12 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 13. Most Frequently Asked Questions What’s changed with COLD, IDLE/WARM, HOT Standby ? BEFORE – COLD standby was no charge – For IDLE (Informix) or WARM (IBM) standby, required 100 PVUs – HOT required full Informix licenses as Primary – Secondary required same metric as Primary NOW – COLD and IDLE/WARM are No Charge ! – HOT requires Informix licenses • But does not need to be on same metric! But you have to be on Informix 11.50xC7 or later!! Not for distribution 13 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation

  • 20. Passport Advantage Software Is Licensed In Primarily Two Ways In general, two licensing models predominate today: Per User Processor Value Units (PVUs) One license per user Licensing to the processor core 20 users = 20 licenses Not for distribution 20 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 21. PVU basic concepts Cores have a wide variety of performance characteristics – For a given workload, would need more slow cores than faster cores – But regardless of the core type, the value is the same to the customer In a perfect world, middleware price for any workload would be the same on all core technologies Identical Workload Identical Customer Value Relatively slow core Relatively fast core Requires 16 cores Requires 4 cores License to the workload capacity Not for distribution 21 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 22. Customers benefit when migrating to newer HW technology Customers benefit as they move to newer processor core technology with a lower total number of licenses Identical Workload Identical Customer Value Relatively slow core Relatively fast core Requires 16 cores Requires 4 cores Ex: 50 PVUs/core Ex: 100 PVUs/core Total 800 PVUs Total 400 PVUs Cost per workload decreases on newer processor technology Not for distribution 22 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 23. Processor cores are assigned to PVU tiers Introduced July, 2006 Each middleware program has a unique price per PVU PVUs are transferable among systems by product within the enterprise Acquire the appropriate number of PVUs for each processor core One per processor license equals 100 PVUs Structure consists of 6 tiers * A complete list of PVUs by processor technology is available at the IBM PVU Website: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html Not for distribution 23 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
  • 24. IBM PVUs provide for two approaches Full capacity licensing – Customers acquire licenses for all the physical processor cores – Standard licensing approach in Passport Advantage Sub-capacity (Virtualization Capacity) licensing – Customers acquire licenses for the lower of Virtualization Capacity or Full Capacity of the server, or group of servers • Virtualization Capacity is the sum of the virtual core capacity available to a product – Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules differ by Virtualization Technology, see specific rules for your Virtualization Technology Environment: Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules Examples of Licensing Scenarios Follow Not for distribution 24 2010 © 2010 IBM Corporation
