Immigration laws are changing. There are some exiting new immigration laws to the USA for 2013. The US Senate recently passed a bill that aims to increase border security, increase work visas, create pathways to citizenship, reduce overstaying and illegally hired workers, as well as reduce the deficit. These new immigration laws mean big changes.

2. Immigration Laws
Things are changing in the United States. Particularly when it
comes to immigration laws. This has been a long time
coming, when you consider how long it has been since the
immigration laws have been revamped. Believe it or not,
there haven't been serious changes to the US immigration
laws since 2000. Before that, changes hadn't been made
since 1986 - when Ronald Reagan passed a law that allowed
nearly 3 million undocumented immigrant workers to become
eligible to obtain legal status. However, all that is about to
change. The US Senate has recently passed a reform of the
United States immigration laws. What are the new
immigration laws to the USA for 2013? Keep reading to find
out.
3. What Is the New Immigration
Reform?
So, what is the new immigration reform? In order to understand
what the new immigration laws to the USA for 2013 are, we need
to take a look at the immigration reform - what it is, what it
means, and when it will be implemented. Let's start with what it
is. The new immigration reform is called "The Border Security,
Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act."
This act was passed in the US Senate with a 68-32 majority vote.
Thus far, the immigration reform act is gaining praise for
potentially making serious and necessary changes to
immigration laws in the United States. This bill hopes to
implement safer and more secure borders, clearer rules for
those who hope to gain citizenship, eliminate the possibility for
illegal immigration, and gain better control of legal immigration.
If successful, this act will benefit American citizens as well as
those looking to legally immigrate into the country.
4. New Immigration Laws: Increased Border
Security
The newly proposed immigration laws will bring about a
number of changes. One of those changes? Increased border
security. The hope is that increased border security will
prevent or eliminate anyone from sneaking into the United
States illegally. The United States wants to do this in a
number of ways, like doubling the amount of border security
workers at the US-Mexico border to 40, 000. This immigration
reform also aims to improve (and double) the amount of
fencing at the border, as well as using drones and other
surveillance technology in order to properly monitor the
nearly 2000 mile US-Mexico border. This increased security
would make it much more difficult for anyone to sneak into
the country illegally or to overstay.
5. New Immigration Laws:
Citizenship
Perhaps the biggest proposed change to the immigration laws for the
USA relates to citizenship. The new immigration laws would allow
unauthorized immigrants to gain citizenship or temporary legal status in
the country. There are currently 11 million people living in the United
States illegally. The new laws would create a path for these people to
gain citizenship. It would require background checks, a payment of
fines and paying back taxes owing, but it would be possible. The law
would require that they have a clean record and currently hold a job. In
10 years, they would be eligible to apply for a green card and 3 years
after that, they would be allowed to apply for US citizenship. While the
road to citizenship may be long, it could potentially change millions of
lives for the better. Another change proposed by this reform has to do
with temporary work visas. The amount of temporary work visas would
increase to include more immigrants who are trained in science,
engineering, math, technology, agriculture, as well as a new type of visa
that would allow immigrants who can work in construction, retail, and
hospitality.
6. New Immigration Laws: Travel and
Employment
Border security and citizenship aren't the only things changing.
If these new immigration laws for the USA go through, travel and
employment will also be affected. Overstaying work or travel
visas is common. Since this has become such an issue, the new
immigration laws would focus on preventing or deterring this by
using an electronic entry and exit system at American airports,
seaports, and border crossing. This electronic entry would track
visitors when they enter and leave the country - preventing
overstaying. These laws would also impact employers
throughout America. It would ensure that all employers are
hiring legally. This means that all employers throughout the
United States would need to use an E-Verify system. It would
help to prevent anyone from hiring illegal immigrants by
checking for employees with the system. Employers would be
required to check on the immigrant status of an employee within
a set time frame.
7. New Immigration Laws:
Reduced Deficit
The new immigration laws would benefit the United States in
one major way - by reducing the deficit. Not only would the
government make money through paid back taxes from
illegal immigrants, but the deficit would also be reduced by
the surge in population. The new immigration laws are
thought to cause a population increase of just over 10 million
- which would bring the country money through federal tax
revenue. It is estimated that the deficit would decrease by
$192 billion dollars in the next ten years and over $700 billion
dollars in the decade following.
8. When Will It Happen?
Before you get too excited about the new immigration laws
to the USA for 2013 - it's not a done deal...yet. This
immigration reform law is still at least a few years off. It will
take time to pass through the House of Representatives.
When and if that occurs, it will take even more time to
become properly implemented throughout the country. Don't
get discouraged, though! While these new immigration laws
are still a ways off, they are certainly exciting developments.
At the very least, the new immigration laws highlight issues
that have long existed within the United States, like border
control and an increasing number of illegal immigrants. This
new immigration law reform is sure to give hope to citizens
and hopeful immigrants alike.
9. What The New Immigration
Laws Really Mean
It is clear that there are big changes on the horizon. The
immigration laws in the United States were due for a
refresher, and it looks like 2013 is the year that things will
start happening. So, what do the new immigration laws to the
USA for 2013 really mean? It will become more difficult to get
into the country illegally and it will also be more difficult to
overstay in the US illegally. The new laws also mean that
there will be more opportunities for immigrants to live in the
United States and to eventually become citizens. These new
immigration laws will ensure that there is more control over
who lives in the United States of America.
