He said: I am only a messenger of your Lord: That I will give you a pure* boy.
*Other translations: Righteous, holy, faultless, pure from sin.
In his Tafsir* (Interpretation), Al-Tabari used the term "Pure from sin"

I have named her Mary, and lo! I crave Thy protection for her and for her offspring
from Satan the outcast.

Muhammad the sinner, in the Qur'an
Muhammad must ask forgiveness of his sin. Qur'an 40:55

4. Then have patience (O Muhammad). Lo! the promise of Allah is true. And ask
forgiveness of thy sin, and hymn the praise of thy Lord at fall of night and in the
early hours.

So know (O Muhammad) that there is no Allah save Allah, and ask forgiveness for
thy sin and for believing men and believing women.

That Allah may forgive thee of thy sin that which is past and that which is to come,
and may perfect His favour unto thee, and may guide thee on a right path,

6. *From the well of Zamzam
The Well of Zamzam; (Arabic: ‫ )زمزم‬is a well located within the Masjid al-Haram in
Mecca, Saudi Arabia, 20 m (66 ft) east of the Kaaba, the holiest place in Islam.

Two angels in the shape of a bird came to me, they were carrying water and snow,
one of them opened my chest, the other one opened with his beak and washed it.

‫بلوجلوه لم أرها لخلق قط وأرواح لم أجدها ًامن خلق قط وثياب لم أرها عل ى أحد قط فأقبل إل ي يمشيان حت ى أخذ كل‬
‫واحد ًامنهما بعضدي ل أجد لحدهما ًامسا فقال أحدهما لصاحبه أضجعه فأضجعان ي بل قصر ول هصر وقال أحدهما‬
‫لصاحبه افلق صدره فهلوى أحدهما إل ى صدري ففلقها فيما أرى بل دم ول وجع فقال له أخرج الغل والحسد فأخرج‬
‫شيئا كهيئة العلقة ثم نبذها فطرحها‬

8. I was ten years old…One of them opened up my chest, I saw no blood and I felt no
pain. And he said: pull out the hatred and the envy, so he extracted something like a
leech/clot of blood and threw it away.

When Allah wanted him for the Night Journey, he asked Gabriel to open his chest
again and wash his heart.
