English Principles
It’s approximately 3,500 miles from London to New York. This distance made it
hard for Parliament to control the colonies. This is why the colonists needed their own
government. The new ideas about the government and human rights in England were
influencing the English colonies. The new ideas that are influencing the English colonies
were the Representative government, Bill of Rights, and Magna Carta.
Representative government is a form of government founded on the principle of
elected individuals representing the people. There were three kinds of colonies and
each at it’s own small government. Charter colonies, which have colonists, elect their
own governors and members of legislature, or law making body. Proprietary colonies
have proprietors appoint the governor and some of legislature. Royal colonies which
have the king appointed a governor and a part of the legislature. Some of the colonies
wanted rights so William and Mary came along.
William and Mary is the second oldest college in the United States. The
Parliament decided to replace James II with his daughter Mary, and her husband
William. In 1689, William and Mary signed and English Bill of rights that guaranteed
basic rights to all citizens. By the 1600’s, English people had won several rights such as
trial jury. The idea of limited government was established in the Magna Carta in 1215.
Magna Carta also protected against unjust punishment and against the loss of
life,liberty, and property. The Magna Carta was originally established in 1215.

2. Englishmen would celebrate the Magna Carta as a symbol from oppression, as the
Founding Fathers of the United states of America. No person shall be deprived of life,
liberty, and property, without due process of law from the Magna Carta. Those are the
new ideas that influenced the English colonies.
The Representative government, Bill of Rights, and Magna Carta were the new
ideas that influenced the colonies. The Bill of Rights, Representative government, and
Magna Carta are all forms of laws. These forms of laws were important to the colonies
to established their own ways to govern. One thing that the Bill of RIghts,
Representative government, and Magna Carta did was involved to all citizens or at least
most of them. That’s why the rights have importance to colonists so they can feel free
and have a say in how they are governed.
