Andritz, a pulp & paper solutions provider, designed a paper machine with a projected annual raw paper production capacity of 150,000 tonnes for Jiangsu Shuangsheng Paper Technology Development Co., Ltd located in Jiangsu Province, China. This was an ambitious target requiring accurate speed control throughout – a key characteristic of VACON AC drives. The mill officially went into production in June 2013.

CHALLENGE:
• Andritz was commissioned by Jiangsu Shuangsheng Paper
Technology Development to come up with a turnkey solution
for a new high-intensity, corrugated base paper mill project
in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province.
• Andritz asked Vacon to team up and produce a drive system
solution that met all the requirements regarding system
design and product selection.

SOLUTION:
• More than 50 VACON® NXP Common DC bus
inverter units are used for accurate control
of the paper machine, controlling load
distribution and torque/tension.
• VACON® Active Front End units allow each
drive to utilize energy to its full potential,
feeding back into the network where
possible.
• 80 VACON NXS® AC drives operate auxiliary
fans, pumps, compressors and feeders.

All the drives Vacon provided for the project were installed in
a switchgear provided by Andritz, who were impressed by how
easily the design of the drives allowed for system integration.
The compact design of the VACON drives means that they fit in
a modular switchgear structure, which makes life easier when
designing a large-scale system. Not only does it free up space
for other requirements, it also means that the switchgear
design can be used as a model that can be expanded in further
projects.
