3. Exhaust emissions usually contain
significant amounts of various odorous
components.
The perceived odour is due to the
effect of all compounds in the mixture
and depends upon the concentration
and odorous qualities of the
component compounds.
Therefore, it is logical that an odorous gas
sample be characterised in two ways.
Firstly, in the analytical expression, whereby the
components are identified and their concentrations are
measured

5. GC/MS Analysis reveals the composition of

determine the human response.

8. Masking Agent
A generic masking agent (perfume) was formulated to be applied in all
instances. There was no variation in the formulation as Anotec were testing the
“Broad Spectrum” or “one size fits all” theory of masking agent applications. In
the following scene Officer Masking has apprehended Mal Odour without a
thorough investigation.
Officer Masking apprehends
Mal Odour. Frisks him, but comes up
empty handed. Masking lets him go.

9. Masking Agent

All 0307 formulations evaluated were developed as a direct result of the odour
testing conducted. Therefore, a site-specific odour control formula was applied
to the relevant odour source. In the following scene, Officer Anotec is aware
that Mal Odour is on the loose, but he approaches the situation differently by
fully utilising the resources available to him.

17. Conclusion:
Combined odour measurement techniques show
us the “Big Picture”
Enables facility operators the freedom to
choose the best available technology when
presented with more than one option
Masking Agents may be much more suited to
temporary and transient odours and are a poor
performer in continuous odour streams.
