1. How effective is the
combination of your
main product and
ancillary texts?
How have you created a brand for yourself?
It was important to be consistent throughout my products. I
needed to create a brand that would be easily recognized.
Take One Direction for instance, their logo is very simple
however the brand has created this image, where you can
take the name away and we would still know what the
brand was. They have gone to globalised fame with their
brand being applied to perfume, T-shirts etc. because the
brand is so strong. With my products I wanted to create
something that people would recognize. Therefore with the
use of strong colours I have tried to make a product where
the colour will be sufficient enough for it to be recognized
on the shelf. Additionally keeping the phone keyboard in
black helps it to stand out and has great meaning because, it takes a big part in the upcoming music
video “Daylight” and adds to the indie-pop genre. There isn’t a clear logo, like the One Direction logo,
however the composition and colours on both ancillary tasks help to create a brand that will be
clearly recognisable. Also, I decided to put the artist’s face of the back of the Digipak because it adds a
sense of mystery thus making them want to look inside, making my audience want to listen or use the
power of social media and the internet to find out more about Dan B. I wanted to make clear the
simplicity of the Digipak, like the Muse Digipak, this is because it makes you want to look in the
Digipak and learn more about the artist, which I feel I have done very effectively. The phone also
helps to signify his love for music and how the music overpowers his voice, suggesting he really enjoys
what he does.How effective do you feel the branding is of your Digipak and Digipak poster?When
creating my brand it was important to have a unique selling point, something that would make mine
stand out and easily identified against other Digipaks. Even if the person doesn't listen to the music I
feel that my brand is so effective that anyone will remember it, therefore achieving the objective. The
block colour, contrasting with the white background, is an instant eye catcher and helps to signify the
‘Happy go lucky’ attitude of my artist.
Is the brand shown through all three texts?
I feel that both the Digipak and Digipak poster don't reflect the video literally because the Digipak is
an album and the video is a single; the album contains a variety of Dan’s music, which each have
music videos. Therefore the Digipak must look different however I have hinted about the video with
the use of my strong branding, with the phone which appears in all of the music videos and successful
accompanies the brand. The auxiliary tasks have a modern look which I feel reflects the song very well
because it is a very contemporary song. When creating my Digipak and Digipak poster it was hard to
decide what colours to use and which would work well, so I used the eyedropper tool to choose
colours that were in the music video to complement the song, this helped to incorporate the video.
All three texts have an edgy, modern look which is very fitting of the Indie-Pop genre and I feel that
they all complement each other very well.
What would your website look like, if you made it?

2. If I made the website it would follow the general codes and conventions of websites that I looked at.
However the design would be really modern, using the same stamp design that I have used on the
Digipak and Digipak poster, however they could be interactive tiles that move when the mouse is
rolled over them to make it very interactive.
Overall do you think that your brand is very successful?
Yes, I really do. Obviously the main fact is that it looks really professional, however it is the small
added touches that add to the success. The originality was key in making a good brand, I looked at the
Damien Rice Digipak/poster 'O', this gave me the inspiration for a plain, intriguing, design which is a
very successful brand. The bold, eye catching colours help to capture my audience’s attention, whilst
maintaining a sense of mystery. In my research I found out that people buy Digipaks if they contain
extra content, therefore it would eventually contain a booklet with photographs of the artist. Using
lots of close ups to create a relationship with the audience, like with the music video. The social media
icons can provide my audience with additional content, as a substitution for the booklet, which can't
be with the poster. Therefore social media can be added with a strong influence on all the auxiliary
tasks to create the brand.
