Allows faculty to create and submit copyright forms and course reading requests onlineAllows administrators such as library to process the forms/requests more efficientlyAllows data from these forms to be stored in a central place so that reports and statistics can be generated for legal audit purpose.Course Readings that requires the submission of copyright forms:- Library-distributed : readings posted on SMUVista (CLASS), readings compiled in hardcopy course packets Self-distributed : CLASS readings, copyrighted readings that faculty want to record in CRDMS
SMU is required to comply with the record keeping requirement defined in both the CLASS agreement and Section 52 of the Singapore Copyright Act, for multiple copying of works conducted by its Faculty.Theagreement that SMU signed with CLASS requires a report to be submitted to them annually, indicating the list of materials that our faculty distribute to their students. Hence, it is important to have a central database to store all the copyright data, allowing the data to be collated for reports to Legal Office, publishers and CLASS.In addition, we need a system that can enhance the efficiency of both faculty and administrators in managing course reading requests and copyright forms.Note:CLASS (Copyright Licensing and Administration Society of Singapore Ltd), represents publishers/authors worldwide and collects copyright fees on behalf of them and is affiliated to similar organizations around the world.
