When established in 1934, the Palo Alto Junior
Museum and Zoo made history as the first children's
museum west of the Mississippi. Over the following
eight decades, the facility continued growing and
adding new exhibits to reflect current understandings
of science and trends in scientific exploration.
Furthermore, its outdoor zoo was added in 1969.
3. The zoo presently features more than 50
species of animal, including bobcats, raccoon,
and bats.
In addition to its extensive menagerie, the Palo
Alto Junior Museum and Zoo allows visitors,
particularly children aged from infancy up to 9
years old, to learn about science. The Clean
Green Energy Machines exhibit teaches about
renewable forms of energy such as wind, solar,
and water, as well as shows guests the
interconnectedness of humans and the
environment.
4. Another indoor exhibit, Buzzzz, provides
children with insights into entomology by
allowing attendees to observe pinned
and living insects and spiders. Moreover,
much younger children can visit Baby's
Bramble and witness a monarch butterfly
chrysalis.
