Before we begin - You’ll need something to write on!
I love this quote... it sums it (reflection) all up for me! I will let you read it and let you give it meaning for yourself. Look at the date for this... 1933! I have had some say to me word to the effect of “what’s this new reflection thing all about?” Newsflash - This is not NEW (Part in brackets)
Ok, a little bit of background. To me it is something that takes you to somewhere new... a place of learning PLUS - it focusses you on learning... puts you into learning mode.
Whew - deep breath... never attempted this with such a big group! This takes time to get good at... this first step is crucial. Your own feelings (observation of self). Not anyone else! This is your observation of you... not of anyone else. Write questions... anything you can think of - Why do I feel like this? What can I gain from that? Where am I heading with this? Get yourself 10 questions minimum (but the more the better) Don’t lose what you write - we need it later! Word of warning... this is not a method I would use with students. Their reflection should be directed to their learning intention
Filter out this stuff... obviously, because if you use these questions as your filter - YOU ARE NOT BEING REFLECTIVE! You are placing barriers in the way of your own learning...
Filter IN this stuff - for the obvious reasons!
Question: Where in the NZ Curriculum could you find this process?
At the risk of sounding like a begging child... At the risk of sounding like a pleading, begging project director who has a milestone report to write! Thank you - and a reminder about the change of venue for tomorrow’s lead teacher and support teacher session. Now at Leisure Lodge on Waimea Rd. (see you from 8:30 a.m. tomorrow) Many thanks to you all.
