For many business owners, CEO's or leaders, taking your knowledge and products to interstate, regional and international events and markets can be an effective way to expand and diversify. Particularly if you are reliant on shrinking or cautious local markets and reduced demand, national or global expansion, can be very rewarding. - Australia Awards Fellowships Show off your clients: The aim of the Robinvale Agribusiness Workforce Development Strategy will be to provide a strategic approach to ensure the Robinvale region has a highly competent agricultural workforce now and in the future. Robinvale Workforce Development Strategy – Bhutan and Australia Throughout April and May 2015, Workforce BluePrint was privileged to host a high level delegation from Bhutan alongside QUT, who visited Canberra, Adelaide, Mildura and Robinvale, Melbourne and Brisbane. Twelve members of the delegation learnt ways to develop Bhutan’s workforce and economy in a measured and sustainable way all working towards a National Workforce Plan. The aims of the program were to: Strengthen human governance capabilities which link Corporate Governance, Human Governance and Workforce Planning and Development. Establish an evidenced-based approach to workforce planning and development which includes current and future workforce demand and supply, identification of workforce risk and implementation of risk mitigation strategies. Develop a national workforce plan for Bhutan which demonstrates the link between workforce planning and development, productivity, sustainability and economic growth. With a formal welcome ceremony at Old Parliament House, the delegation toured New Parliament House attracting some attention in their national dress. Bhutanese colleagues were supported through the Australia Award Fellowships through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The program began with an introduction to workforce planning and development in Australia, and the TAKE ACTION system that has been developed over time to progress workforce planning. Guest speakers in Canberra represented CPSISC, Department of Education, AgriFood Skills Australia, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Department of Industry. An unexpected bonus was attending an event at Entry 29 hearing from Artist Entrepreneur, Benjamin Shine, as part of ‘The Young Guns’ Founders Series 2015. On Sunday 26 April 2015, the group went on an Adelaide Hills and Zoo adventure to Stirling Laneways Market, wine tasting at Rockbare and spotting kangaroos at Adelaide Zoo. Monday morning kicked off with accessing and using data from the national VET administrative collections and surveys plus the new research priorities: ‘Getting to know NCVER – data collection, dissemination and research’ - Alison Anlezark and Phil Loveder from NCVER. After a walk through the city, the delegation had a chat with Community Lead and a tour of Hub Adelaide. Following lunch our bus driver Jeff drove us down to TAFESA at Tonsley for a guided tour with Stephen Wold. Across the courtyard to Flinders at Tonsley, Ben Flink hosted the delegation with a tour of each floor of this state of the art facility. Impressed with the level of local and regional collaboration on workforce development, fellows participated in the Skills for Jobs and Regions Southern Adelaide network meeting. At the Workforce Planners and Developers Network hosted at New Venture Institute, Director of the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources, Kinley Wangdi spoke on Gross National Happiness and met Katrine Hildyard MP, the Parliamentary Secretary to The Premier. Alexis Watt from RDNS and Silver Chain talked about workforce development in health plus leading a Registered Training Organisation, alongside Kerryn Smith from the DTC on the Defence Industry South Australia – Workforce Strategy. Adam Warchol from CITB, took the group through the levy in South Australia on most building projects that is invested back into training as well as initiatives like Wise Guys. Topping off the enterprise and industry focus, delegates met with Josh Rayner and his team from the South Australian Training and Skills Commission to understand how they forecast jobs and qualifications in demand. Touring SuniTAFE and La Trobe University with a lunch attended by Peter Crisp MP, Member for Mildura, the group saw firsthand articulation pathways and collaboration in action. With an hour or so drive to Robinvale, the first stop was the Robinvale P-12 College, greeted by a local Councillor, the passionate Deputy Principal and teachers. Of particular interest was the new community garden and the new VET programs in agriculture and horticulture. One of the largest employers in the region, Select Harvest, opened up its processing plant for the fellows to see the automation and understand the skills required for critical job roles. The final stop of the day was at Robinvale Distillery which is a significant operation, exporting overseas, where local food, wine, brand and vodka was served. Then it was back on the bus for the drive to Mildura airport and a flight to Melbourne. Melbourne for 1.5 days saw a focus on economic development, entrepreneurship and innovation with guest speakers from iGen and Enterprising Partnerships, BO$$ camp, Economic Development Australia and Hume City Council, and ACPET. Fellows demonstrated their understanding of workforce planning and development by putting the TAKE ACTION system into their own words and building their action plans.
