1. Soul Ties and Their Effects on Us
In the Bible we find a dynamic between the flesh and the spirit. A cursory look at
Ephesians 6:12 will reveal that the things that we see manifested in the flesh are nothing
more than the outward manifestation of what is transpiring in the spirit. The Apostle Paul
tells us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual things. It takes then
very little inference to conclude that - when we see things manifested in the physical world,
it is just the byproduct of spiritual occurrences. This is the reason why as Christians we do
not look at the individual as an evil, wicked person, but rather as someone in need of God’s
deliverance and mercy. It is the sin that we focus on, not on the sinner, because we
understand the dynamics of flesh, spirit and sin. This principle is also reflected in the Bible
from the very beginning. In Genesis chapters 1 and 2 God creates Eve out of the man, he
literally takes the woman out of the being that was already there. This is very important; it
is found in Genesis chapter 2, verses 21-24.
“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one
of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.
22Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He
brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and
mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Here, we must keep two important facts in mind: God takes the woman out of man (see
chapter 2, vrs 23) and in verse 24 we are told that when a man joins to his wife, “they shall
become one flesh”.
This takes us into what Christians have now come to term “soul ties”.
Moving forward: God brings Eve to Adam and blessed them (wedding), as we move on to
chapter four we are told that Adam “KNEW” (made love to his wife) Eve and she
conceived and bore him Cain. The product of what we were told would happen in Genesis
Chapter 2 verses 23 and 24 is Cain. How so? You may ask… well with modern science,
2. today we understand what happens genetically for a child to be formed. It takes the Joining
of the man with the woman; it takes the joining of the sperm with the egg and it takes the
joining of 23 chromosomes from the male and 23 from the female in order to get ONE
person. The man then is joined with the woman and they “created” one flesh, Adam joins
himself with Eve and they formed one person. Isn’t it interesting that the Bible revealed to
us in the book of Genesis what we would come to discover thousands of years later? – I
wonder what other truths are found in there?
Anyway, back to soul ties. Now, if you have been reading and you are a person with a
critical mind (which I hope you are) you may say at this point – “in chapter 2 verse 24 it did
not say that they would form one flesh when they join together!” It said they would
“become one flesh”. O.K you got me! – However, remember the original premise is that the
outward, the physical manifestation of what we see in the flesh is the outcome of what has
already transpired in the spirit. As the man joins with his wife, they do become one flesh.
The word flesh as used here is referring to the person, not the physical bone, meat and skin;
rather the person as an individual. Therefore, as we are joined to our wife (sexual
intercourse), we bring back to her the half of her that we have and she brings back the half
of us that she has. It is to some extent true then what some men go around saying – “you
are not a real man until you have sex with a woman” – This we know that is said out of
context and for noting more than sinful reasons. However, it is nonetheless truth. Men need
women to be complete and yes ladies, you do need a man to be “fulfilled”. The interesting
thing here however, is that this joining should happen with husband and wife. As we live
our lives carelessly having many sexual partners and of course keeping in mind that they
may have had other partners, and those partners many other partners… we are taking upon
ourselves part of who all those people are, and we are giving of ourselves to many other
people. We are splintered and broken up into many little pieces. We are living broken
lives. The consequences of this can be very detrimental. There are some people that may
have experienced thoughts and feelings that are not their own but rather the compilation of
thoughts of many people. These thoughts can range from suicidal to perverted sexual
orientations among other things. Furthermore, we are also giving only fractions of who we
are to our final wedding partner or mate.
The Apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 6:15-16, sais all what I have said here in just two
verses.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members
of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that
he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become
one flesh.”
This scripture of course is for Christian believers, but in its application, it is for all people.
This topic is very extensive, and these few lines are given only to provide and overview and
general understanding of soul ties.
3. If you have come to realize through what you have read, that this is true and that you would
like to change your life and take back yourself and renounce the many partners that you
may have had; repeat this prayer out loud.
Not a believer: You must first accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior – Lord Jesus I believe
that you are the son of God. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and rose from
the dead on the third day. I receive you as my Lord and savior come in to my heart and
make me a new creature. (Believer) Now Lord I repent of all my sins and I ask you to
forgive me for them all. I pray that you deliver me from all unholy and ungodly soul ties. In
the name of Jesus I reject and renounce all ungodly soul ties that I have brought in my life.
Jesus I pray that you break them and all the stain that comes with them; I pray that you free
me and all those that I have made these soul ties with. In Jesusname I pray – Amen.
