2. Abstract
Communication has been since ages the most needed element in every human´s
life. The translation I decided to do comes from the book “Myths and Traditions of
the Arikara Indians”. Six tells and myths were chosen for this project. I will involve
myself with all the vocabulary related to this topic. Thereafter I will prepare a
presentation and finally, the translation will be done.
3. Introduction
Rationale
The demand in the translating field is growing this time was for coming from the
anthropology field.
The main reasons why I’m doing this are:
My translation is for the anthropology field and I want to contribute to it. I have never
work in this field so I believe it would be a challenge for me to do it, especially since we
are talking about literal translation. Literal translation is supposed to be more
complicated since you have to deal with idioms, different meanings from the source
language to the target language etc. However I want to be able to share my
knowledge while challenging myself to do a literal translation. Another reason why am
I doing this is because I can make use of the different translation techniques I have
learnt during this major in my translation classes. The importance of the work I am
doing, relies on the need of the anthropology teacher to share these myths and tells to
his students.
4. Objectives
One of my goals is to translate this work not only word-by-work but the truly meaning
of it, I mentioned before that one of the reason is to make use of the translation
techniques and what I want is to have a record of the ones I am using.
I took Translation I and II from this major, which I has taken my translation skills to the
next level, especially now that I am taking the third level of this subject. In this level we
are focusing on translating scientific and literary texts. That is why I have the necessary
aptitudes to do this project.
Furthermore I want to give my final work to the anthropology teacher so that he could
make right use out of it. For instance the anthropology teacher could use this work by
using it for having a better dynamic in his classroom or by sharing these myths and
tells with his students or in a social networks so that other Spanish speaking people
could be able to widen themselves with this.
5. Review of Literature
We cannot talk about translation without mentioning the different techniques of translation; even
though they may see to be countless, a translator has two options for translation:
1. Direct or Literal translation.
Borrowing
Calque
Literal Translation
2. Oblique translation.
