finalists will be equipped with camcorders and provided coaching in grassroots marketing
as they compete online for five (5), $5,000 grants and five (5), $1,500 grants to change

Hello Laptop, Hello World is headed to Managua, Nicaragua in January. The
Cambridge-based Venture will collaborate with the InterAmerican Development Bank and
the Nicaragua Deaf Association to set up an XO laptop lab for deaf students. Check out

Congratulations to the Keystone Club of Pearl St. Boys & Girls
Club in Framingham, MA. In partnership with United Way of
Tri-County, the new team, Keystone Cafe, plans to provide
nutritious snacks at an affordable price to club attendees and
staff.

Six new Venture Teams have launched in Leominster, MA through the partnership with
the United Way of North Central Massachusetts and Mount Wachusett Community
College's Center for Democracy & Humanity. Leominster now has 24 active Venture

United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Vally also had a big month. Over
60 youth from 10 different after school agencies in the Greater Boston area and 20
volunteers from the United Way Emerging Leaders group gathered for the United Way
Youth Venture Selection Panel on December 12th. Twelve teams launched as a result of
the panel with ideas ranging from improving nutrition to sexual education.

United Way to Expand Youth Venture Program
The United Way of North Central Massachusetts recently
received a $300,000 federal grant to expand its Youth
Venture program. Founded in 2002, the partnership
currently serves over 1,000 students in 12 schools in
Fitchburg, Leominster, Shirley, Ayer and Winchendon. "This
federal funding makes it possible for more students to participate, with the goal of
reaching 20 percent of all students in the region within three years," said U.S. Rep. John W.
Olver, D-Amherst.
