Cellular automata models can be used to summarize various transport problems including highway traffic, ant trails, pedestrian dynamics, and intracellular transport. These systems can be described using variants of the asymmetric simple exclusion process which models directed motion with exclusion. Highway traffic models use higher velocities while ant trail models include state-dependent hopping rates. Pedestrian models involve 2D motion and "virtual chemotaxis". Intracellular transport models add adsorption and desorption terms to the exclusion process.
