3. Question 1
Who is the speaker that you chose, and what is
the thesis of the speech?
The speaker of this topic is the founder and CEO
of Emotiv Lifescience, Tan Le. The topic she is
talking about with us is how to have computers,
in this case a headset, read our brain waves.
4. Question 2A
How did the speaker capture the attention of
the audience in his or her introduction?
Tan talked about how we have a very limited
way of interacting with the technology vs. the
way we interact with other people.
5. Question 2B
How did the speaker maintain the engagement of
the audience throughout the speech?
Tan used lots of high quality pictures to show the
headset that she was using in this speech and
demoed the headset also with a speaker, Evan
Grant, that has appeared before on TED. There was
also video showing how it can be used in a
Smarthouse, and how it can help someone move
when they are in an electric wheelchair.
6. Question 3
Evaluate the speaker in terms of dynamism from 1
(lowest) to 5 (highest). What could the speaker
have done to increase his or her dynamism?
Tan would be rated a 3 in dynamism. She was very
informative about her topic and delivered it to the
audience in an easy way but the way it was
delivered wasn’t great. There wasn’t much life in
the delivery in her voice it felt more like a lecture
voice.
7. Question 4
What tips were used from Garr Reynolds or
Nancy Duarte?
Tan used a few tips, she used images, videos
and audio, and kept a very complicated topic
simple, and she the way she did her speech it
felt like she followed the model shape that
Nancy went over.
8. Question 5
What have you learned about delivery based upon
watching your presenter?
What I have learned is that to keep the audience
interested you need to keep it:
-Simple
-Short
-If possible demo it
-Use examples that the audience can relate to
-Use a voice that isn't monotone or boring but one full of
life and that would keep you interested
9. Question 6
Compare and contrast your speaker to Sir Ken Robinson
from the two videos you watched (“Schools Kill
Creativity” and “Changing Education Paradigms”)
Ken kept the audience interested in him with lots of
humor, examples in life that you can relate to and topic
that are familiar to you and stories.
Tan took a very complicated topic that would go over
peoples heads and simplified it to a way that it could be
understood and how it can be useful to people in
everyday life and to how it can change lives for people.
10. Question 7
What tips can you give your classmates on delivery for their
upcoming speeches based ONLY on your TED Talk?
From the TED Talk that Tan did the tips I can give you is:
-If you have a complicated topic keep it simple and easy to
understand to someone that knows nothing about your topic
-Use visual aids such as pictures that are related to your topic
and what your trying to show
-Videos to show demos of your topic which will help you get
your idea across.
-Live demos of your topic too to show how it works right
there.
