Google’s success is
validating new thinking…
Google is a company that produces no
content
and sells no products, and yet it dramatically
increases the efficiency of content and
commerce, all by leveraging the communal
activity of its tens of millions of users.
Google’s success – which validates the new
way of thinking about
media, software, content
and commerce - is counter-intuitive to the
conventional thinking of just ten years ago
when
the web was first created…and perceived as
just a variation of traditional mass media.
4. WHY IS FACEBOOK IMPORTANT?
Facebook is one of the top
social networking sites,
quickly gaining on Myspace
in terms of total users and
traffic. Facebook presents
a unique marketing
opportunity for businesses
through the creation of
Facebook Business Pages.
As more people explore
social media, social
networking sites have
become some of the key
online sources they use to
learn more about products,
organizations, artists and
world events. Marketing on
Facebook has a viral effect
– information spreads
through networks
exponentially.
5. TECHNOLOGY IN WORLD
NETWORKS
With continuing economic development and
technological advancement, questions
arise as to whether these phenomena
are unreservedly good. This project
attempts to view one particular side
effect of the advent of technology -- its
effect on interpersonal relations -- in an
effort to assess some of the social
implications of these phenomena.
According to economist Thomas
Nechyba, the increase in wealth and
quality of life in the United States has
contributed to the isolation of individuals.
Whereas individuals and families
formerly had to rely upon social networks
to insure against adverse economic
conditions, in present times these
networks are no longer as necesssary
