2. During the creation of our documentary we took time out to
look into shops and see what clothes were available for
young girls to purchase today.
The aim of our research was to see whether the clothes that
shops provided for young girls would encourage them to
act and dress older than they were. This relates to our
documentary as the title of our documentary is “12 going
on 20.”
The research that we undertook proved that the clothes
provided by shops especially River Island do encourage
girls to dress and act older than they are, they are
encouraging your girls to turn into adults before there
time.
We took some pictures to show how provocative some of the
clothes that are available to these young girls are.
3. River Island
As you can see from these pictures the clothes available for young girls to purchase are
just mini versions of what’s out there in the adult section of River Island. The tops
provided for 3-4 year olds are ‘crop-tops’, so even from the age of 3 young girls are
persuaded to show their flesh. Also the peplum top is a adult fashion which is popular
at the moment and River Island are encouraging girls from the age of 3 to wear them.
4. River Island
The shiny disco pants are
available to purchase for girls
as young as age 3, this again
shows how shops are
encouraging girls to dress older
as disco pants are trousers on
trend for teenagers. Also the
manikin in River Island shows a
young girl who is obviously
trying to dress older than she is
with the short blue dress,
handbag and jewellery, by
having a manikin dressed like
this it will encourage young
girls to do the same. Also the
skirt is extremely short and
provocative, it is not age
appropriate yet it is still being
sold and purchased in shops
today.
